- YAY!! We finally get to harvest Asparagus in our Zone 3 climate this Garden Season! This is the 3rd year since they were planted as bare roots in our raised bed. Our 2nd raised bed of Asparagus won’t be ready to harvest until next year, then we will have an adequate harvest. Asparagus is $5 a pound at the Grocery Store. A very good reason to grow our own! We love Asparagus Freeze Dried too! #asparagus #asparagusfern #asparagusseason #zone3gardening #coldclimategardening #beginnergardener #raisedbedgardening #tomatogrowers #heirloomvegetables #gardeners #gardening #growing #growingfoodathome #growinggardens

🌿 Ever dreamed of cultivating your own slice of nature but didn't know where to start? Gardening can seem daunting, but with these beginner-friendly hacks, you'll be nurturing a thriving garden in no time: 1️⃣ Start Small: Dive in with a small plot or a few containers. It’s less overwhelming and easier to manage. 🌼 2️⃣ Choose Easy Plants: Opt for hardy varieties like sunflowers, basil, or lettuce, which are forgiving and require minimal care. 🌻🌿 3️⃣ Use Quality Soil: The foundation of a healthy garden starts with good soil. Use high-quality potting mix for containers or enrich your garden soil with compost. 🌱💪 4️⃣ Water Wisely: Over-watering is a common mistake. Check the soil’s moisture with a simple finger test before watering to make sure your plants get just enough. 💧👈 5️⃣ Natural Pest Control: Protect your plants naturally. Marigolds can deter beetles and neem oil is great for various pests. 🐛🚫 6️⃣ Label Everything: It's easy to forget what’s planted where. Use markers or labels to track your plants and their specific needs. 🏷️📝 7️⃣ Patience is Key: Good things take time, including gardens. Don’t get discouraged; enjoy the growth process and learn as you go. 🕰️❤️ 🌎💚 Gardening isn’t just about growing plants—it’s about growing yourself. Each seed you plant nurtures patience, care, and a deeper connection to the earth. 👇 Got any gardening hacks of your own? Rote Hannover/Bokrahan (Jan Kees Kraan, Netherlands, 1995) Species cross The color of this rose is really exceptional. Extremely bright! It is (at least my plant) growing upright on a very strong stem, which, if true as a common trait, makes her very easy to accommodate in the garden plan - no support needed, no spilling branches all over the place. Also the foliage gets coloured in autumn. I am very surprised that it is not very popular. #rotehannoverrose #rotehannover #bokrahan #bokrahanrose #speciesroses #speciescross #oldroses #oldrosegarden #antiqueroses #heirloomroses #mygardentoday #rosarium #alterosen #beginnergardener #roseobsession #instarose #instaroses #oldfashionedroses #gardenplanning #hardyroses #magentarose #repeatbloom #repeatbloomingroses #autumnfoliage #oldgardenroses #oldgarden #instarose #shotoniphone #flowerphotography #roseaddict #rosegarden

Something I learned about my second year of gardening. While fertilizer can lead to the leaf whitening you’ve seen on your tomato plants, it’s more likely that sunburn is the cause, given that you’re hardening them off and they’ve just had their first significant exposure to sunlight. Here are a few helpful tips for sunburnt seedlings: – When introducing your plants to sunlight, start by placing them in a shady spot for a few days. –Also, protect them from strong winds, which can also scorch the leaves. –Ensure they are well-watered and avoid using fertilizer for the first week or two outside. –It’s better to keep the scorched leaves on the plant unless they wither and become crispy. If that happens, remove the dead leaves to prevent disease. However, any green part of the leaves is crucial for the plants’ growth. Follow this method with your plants, and hopefully, they’ll have enough healthy leaves to continue photosynthesis and produce food. 🪴Happy gardening! #gardening #gardeningtips #tomatoplants #tomatoes #beginnergardening #beginnergardener

Today’s experiment: giving some natural organic homemade liquid fertilizer to half of the plants in this house. . Banana peel soaked overnight in water. I used 2 bananas for every 3 litres of water. Sounds simple enough to try right? This morning used this to water some plants (only the water). Banana peels is said to be rich with potassium, nitrogen, phosphorus and magnesium. I really hope they make my plants happy😅. . The source said I can add water and soak again and keep watering until the banana peels turn black. We’ll see guys! . Happy Sunday! . #homemadefertilizer #bananapeel #bananafertilizer #beginnergardener #plantlover #plantobsessed

I see kale chips and refreshing mint and strawberry water in my future. The flowers were a welcomed harvest to brighten up this gloomy rainy day 😍. • It has been so rainy here and I noticed the chicken area needed some love so I spent some time in between the rain showers cleaning the coop and putting down more pine shavings. I know their little feet are thankful for that lol. • I’m so surprised that the kale hasn’t bolted yet. I don’t normally plant spring kale for that reason but I gave it a try this year and it’s been working out! • There so many things that need to be harvested right now mostly the herbs and greens. If I’m lucky I’ll the weather be much nicer tomorrow and I’ll be able to hang out in the garden. • Were you able to get out into the garden today? • #urbanhomesteader #urbanhomestead #garden #gardening #growyourownfood #smallspacegardening #beginnergardener #blackgirlsgardening #virginiagardner #zone7b #backyardgarden

Easy to grow from seed, great for borders, and used as a companion flower for veggies, sweet alyssum likes full sun to partial shade.👩‍🌾 The best part though? Their delicate fragrance attracts beneficial insects like lacewings - cute, delicate looking green insects - and after dining on alyssum’s nectar, the lacewings go looking for all those nasty aphids among my vegetables (thank you very much)!👩‍🌾 Bees and butterflies also love sweet alyssum. Is there anything better than a homegrown tomato?! 🍅 Imagine walking out to your garden and getting the most delicious tomato right off the vine! If you’re ready to make this dream come true, here’s a few tips ⬇️ 🌱Begin by selecting the right tomato variety for your climate and space, ensuring they receive at least 6-8 hours of sunlight daily. 🌱Prepare nutrient-rich soil with compost or organic fertilizer, ensuring proper drainage. 🌱Provide support for your tomato plants with stakes or cages to keep them upright as they grow. 🌱Water consistently, ensuring the soil remains moist but not waterlogged, especially during hot, dry spells. 🌱Regularly prune tomato plants to promote air circulation and remove suckers that steal energy from fruit production. 🌱Harvest them when they reach full color and slightly soft to the touch. 🌱Enjoy! . . . #homegrowntomatoes #vegetablegardens #vegetablegardening #vegetablegardener #tomatoplants #tomatoplanting #gardeningtips #gardeningideas #howtogrow #growingtomatoes #gardeningtime #gardentipsandtricks #gardeninspo #gardencenter #gardendesign #ilovegardening #gardeninspiration #gardenstyle #gardenlover #gardenlove#springgardening #plantshopping #gardenlife #weloveplants #greenthumbs #ncgardening #ncgardener #beginnergardener #gardeningforbeginners #newgardener

💡 Garden Tip - Two of many great reasons to use annuals in the landscape: 1️⃣ To fill space and block out weeds while you're waiting for your perennials and shrubs to grow to mature size and 2️⃣ To add a bright spot of continuous color that lasts all season. Look for annuals that thrive in landscape settings like Superbena® verbena, Truffula™ Pink Gomphrena, Supertunia Vista® petunias and Rockin'® salvias, all pictured here in the garden of Laura of @gardenanswer. A few more to try: Snow Princess® sweet alyssum, Senorita Rosalita® cleome, Surefire® begonias, Campfire® bidens, ColorBlaze® coleus and Suncredible® sunflowers. Which annuals are your favorites to plant in your landscape?

#GardeningTip 🌸 Be careful with annual hanging baskets as temperatures fluctuate this month, especially in the evening. Warmer season annuals are susceptible to taking damage overnight and may need to be brought into the house or a warm garage for protection. Little hands in the garden make me so happy! I love that my kids enjoying digging in the dirt and ask me to come look at things they have found in the garden. While I started gardening for myself, it’s been a huge bonus and blessing to have them alongside me too. Why do you want to start gardening too? #beginnergardener #momswhogarden #momswhogardenwithkids #beginnergarden

On today’s episode of Delulu gardening.. I’m growing pumpkins!! 🎃🎃🎃 I DON’T EVEN EAT PUMPKINS! I don’t have children to enjoy spooky pumpkin things… but I will probably use them as table decorations. 🤣 LAST year I made chocolate brownies with my left over supermarket mini gourds and they were actually really good. I’m also seeing recipes for pumpkin cookies. So I may give those a whirl again. These are a Hungarian variety, I believe called “Curcurbita” that I got on eBay with some tomato seeds. Every year you have to grow something you have a b s o l u t e l y N O need for right???? Am I rite??? Say yes. #punpkins #pumpkinpicking🎃 #gardeninguk🌱 #vegpatchlife #allotmentgarden #allotmentuk #growyourown #beginnergardener #amateurgardener #gardeninspiration #springflowers #vegetablegarden #vegetablegardening #homegrown #homegrownveggies #homegrownfood #howtogrowyourownfood #gyo #gyofood #vegetablegrowing #nodig #nodigveggies #igrewthis #igrewthese #grownwithlove #homegrown #growninmygarden #sustainability #selfsufficiency #loveyourgarden #gyo #gyocommunity
