One of the OG romance novels for me, this one got me hooked on love.

Like many of NS novels, this one is a movie and a damn good one at that. Even if you’ve already watched the movie, this book is like a warm cup of coffee while sitting on the front porch of an old beach house with a weeping willow in the front yard swaying in the breeze…too specific?

Katie is new to Southport, North Carolina and tends to keep to herself. Alex owns the local shop in town and notices right away how Katie enjoys spending time with Alex’s young daughter in between shifts of working at the local seafood restaurant. It’s obvious that Katie’s reason for being so private is complicated, but she begins to open up to her neighbor, Jo, who encourages her to give Alex a chance. While Alex enjoys Katie’s company, he is also trying to figure out how he can move forward with his life after his wife’s death years ago.

As always, the imagery and scene development in this novel is incredible and gives you that small town comfort we all know and love from NS. Katie’s haunting past was done very well and I enjoyed the juxtaposition between her old life and the freedom she finds in Southport. Alex’s character development was less dramatic, but still important and the way he processed grief and guilt was done very well.

I’ll probably always take this one with me to the beach as a back up read since it never fails to give me the warm fuzzies.

#books #bookstagram #bookworm #booklover #bookreview #bookrecommendations #reading #readinglist #fiction #fictionbooks #booknerd #romancebooks

I’ll probably always take this one with me to the beach as a back up read since it never fails to give me the warm fuzzies.
