Today I received email confirmation of my fortuitous good tidings from a good natured gentleman, a general infact of the Nigerian army. All I need to do now is confirm my bank details and my winning funds will be released to me. So, to celebrate this great news we are today imbibing this brew. Star Lager Beer, Nigeria's number one selling beer. Founded in 1946 by Chioma May Odiakos and brewed by Nigerian breweries PLC in Lagos. Now owned by? Yes you guessed it.......Heineken. This beer comes in a massive 600ml bottle with a kicking 5.1% abv. That point one percent makes all the difference. On pouring the carbonation is spot on, just look at that head. But don't be fooled, all those lovely golden bubbles disappear faster than Tobi Amusan down a race track. The flavour is very pleasant with a somewhat sweet aftertaste. You could easily do an all day sesh on this, that is until that point one percent kicks you in the arse. Now I'm not one for stereotypes as you well know but in 2018/19 Nigerian breweries PLC was found guilty of running illegal lottery operations whilst running marketing promotions. You really couldn't make this shit up could you. Come to think of it I've never participated in the lottery never mind the Nigerian equivalent. Cruzcampo Cerveza Seville, Spain Hello dear friends, it was only a couple of months ago that Birra Moretti was the new hip lager to sup and that was quickly replaced by Madri, which lasted all of five mins. But now we have a new kid on the block. A new flavour of the week. Hailing originally from Seville, Spain we have Cruzcampo. Seville, famous for flamenco dancing, oranges and some bloke who cuts hair. Founded in 1904 and named after a cross in a field nearby to the original brewery it is now owned by Heineken brewing corporation. We've been here so many times before. Now brewed in the Heineken brewery in Manchester this beer is now about as Spanish as everybody's favourite Mancunian senor, Sean Ryder. The brew itself comes in a 4.4% and is light and malty with good carbonation. It's a definite for an all day drinking session. The can itself bears an image of Gambrinus, the European culture hero celebrated as an icon of beer and imagined by some as a man who has an enormous capacity for drinking beer. So, your typical Brit tourist on his holidays on the Costa del Crime. Hoy es viernes de petróleo y sorry pero esto es lo más oscuro que conseguí en mi nevera. Aparte de la Hefeweizen que les mostré hace unos días, está es la otra referencia de Flensburger que compré. Y aunque la Weizen me gustó mucho más, está tampoco es que esté mal. Visualmente es linda, un color cobre oscuro con una espumita beige de buena formación y retención. Me hubiese gustado un tris más oscurita (pa justificar lo del petróleo) En nariz predomina los aromas dulces a malta, pan tostado y un ligero chocolate. En boca es de cuerpo ligero con notas a malta, reminiscencias de pan tostado y un amargor ligero pero presente. El final es medianamente seco y con un retrogusto sutil pero entre amargo y dulzón. #crispythursday y nos vamos con una Helles. Germania es en inicio una de las cervecerías más antiguas de Colombia. Originalmente fue fundada en 1903 usando recetas clásicas y elaborando cervezas bajo la Ley de pureza Alemana. Luego de 57 años en el mercado, en 1960 esta cervecería apagó sus maceradores y vació sus fermentadores de forma definitiva. (Inserte musica triste) Pero nada, más de 50 años después, la gente de @echandopola adquirió los derechos de la marca y empezaron a sacar esta birra usando la receta originales, igual dentro de los estándares de la ley de pureza Alemana. Y así, luego de esa habladera de paja que me pegué allá arriba, llegamos a lo que vinimos. La birra. Está birra tiene un color dorado pajizo muy cristalino, y una espuma blanca de mediana formacion y poca retención. En nariz tenemos aromas inclinados al grano de la mata, con ligeras notas florales de lúpulo. Al tomarla, es una cerveza ligera y refrescante, con una buena carbonatacion que hace se sienta ese perfil chispeante en la boca. Tiene un muy ligero dulzor maltoso soportado por un amargor medio-bajo y un final seco. Una birra súper fácil de tomar, económica y sabrosa. Hoy vamos con una alemana que recientemente empezó a venderse en Colombia y me parece que es una buena opción. De Flensburger nos llega esta hefeweizen que no es nada de otro planeta pero si tiene lo suyo y se deja colar. Visualmente es de un color dorado brillante, algo turbia y con unos destellos ligeramente naranjas, su espuma es blanca con muy buena formación y retención. En nariz tenemos aromas especiados de clavo, ligeras notas a banana y a cáscara de naranja. En boca nos da sabores a pan y trigo y un ligero dulzor, tiene un cuerpo medio tirando a ligero y carbonatacion media. Si la ven por ahí, denle la oportunidad, es una birra que se disfruta sin que nos vuele la cabeza. Por ahí tengo la dunkel, reservada para el viernes. Wrexham Lager Wales, UK. Once more unto the breach dear readers, once more. Today we're staying relatively local. Just across the border in fact and into Wales. Wales, the home cottage burning, cheese on toast and a phlegm inducing mother tongue. Just this weekend I was supping with an old friend of mine, Shadwell Stoat. A lovely lad but has issues. We were drinking this little brew, Wrexham Lager. Brewed by The Wrexham Lager Beer Company. Established in 1882 by a bloke named Blodwyn, probably. It's a decent 5%abv and has enough carbonation to keep it interesting but strangely not a huge head on the pour. Your typical golden amber in its colouration. Now this is a nice beer. I thought Shadwell was pulling a fast one by tipping up with a crate of this stuff. He likes to assist in the quoffing of my sizeable beer collection and does so enjoy my more expensive brews. But no, this went down extremely well. If I found this on tap in my local I would have no qualms in ordering it. A good session lager for sure. Lunes de Lúpulo y lo celebramos con un doblete de @wrenhousebrewing Estás birras a las que tuvimos acceso gracias al bro @elhuelebirra y domicilio de @ipa.jho son una cosa hermosa y bien hecha. La Further West es una West Coast IPA de un color dorado brillante y bien limpio, y una espuma de buena formación y poca retención, que nos regala aromas resinosos de pino y algunos toques cítricos. En boca es una birra de cuerpo ligero con buen amargor y un final herbal y bien dank. Por su parte la Blue Quad Roller Skates, es una birra turbia, con espuma también de buena formación y corta duración, pero que en contraparte con la birra anterior, es mas New England, con aromas a fruta tropical, entre los que destacan maracuyá, aromas cítricos y leve durazno. En boca sigue a los aromas, con un cuerpo medio y final algo dulce. La mejor manera de comenzar la semana con energía.
