To conclude this brief review I can only say that I would have liked a more "desktop-diver" version of this watch. 300 meters would have sufficed instead of 1200 meters. Making this watch 2mm thinner and slightly lighter would have put the very popular Tissot PRX, Christopher Ward or others even further behind when compared. That said, it is important to know that the DNA of (Compañía Relojera Especializada para Actividades Subacuáticas) C.R.E.P.A.S. is extreme diving tools. Regrettably, making a 300 meter sporty-leisure watch would certainly not be part of their DNA. I can't be but impressed with this CREPAS Aquamatic 1200. As some know I own an "interesting" collection of CREPAS watches that I do not hesitate to recommend. These divers have become some of my favourite summer watches. Unbeatable price and very limited numbers making these a rarity amongst the collector scene. Many of these I hold dear to my heart for several reasons and others I like due to their uniqueness. That said, this latest issue by CREPAS is one of, if not their best piece so far. Many will question how a watch like this can be sold at under 700€. I though I use the occasion to test my latest purchase (received last week) to take pictures while wrapping up my critique on the Aquamatic 1200... The Voigtlander Nokton is a beast of a lens. I am still on the fence regarding it's use of an extreme aperture and weight/size handicap. I own the Ultron f2.0 in the same focal and it is a superb lens. How will this do when compared? ⚠️ACHTUNG⚠️ It seems the last @fujifilmx_us update has introduced a bug that affects all Voigtlander X-lenses. The widest aperture of any Voigtlander lens is being written as the largest aperture in the EXIF data. For instance, if I shoot at f0.9 the EXIF will show f22. I was sent the black version out of the five that will be available. There will be black, taupe-grey, lime-green, orange and blue. Lumened ceramic bezel, helium gas escape valve, micro adjustment, real screws for link pins, diving extension... Is it really that hard? (Talking to the others...). The finishing on case and bracelet are perfect and well above what you have come to expect for a watch at this price point. My only suggestions: 1.- Make the bracelet 0.5mm to 1mm thiner to make the watch a bit lighter. I know, it's a diver but a dozen of grams less won't hurt. 2.- There needs to be a small bevel on the edges of the underside of the bracelet. The proto is a bit "raw" and some softening of the edges would be welcomed. 3.- An option to add a smaller extension apart from the default diving extension would be welcomed. First thoughts out of the transport box was WOW! The second feeling was that of utter embarrassment, perhaps even anger. A sense of shame to see how a micro-brand such as CREPAS can get a bracelet and proportions right when more prestigious brands that sell their watches in well over five figures still insist in proposing straight non-tapered bracelets with cheap lateral-pusher clasps. The list of those bad integrated watch attempts is long since 99% of them fail miserably at that. Here a proposal at under 700€ raises questions if too many others have become lazy or simply think of their customers as stupid. Leaving those thoughts aside, my first reaction out of the box on the “Aquamatic” is its proportions. the second is its weight. Not an oversized watch but no miniature child watch size either. I had the initial reaction to think it too heavy, yet I need to remind myself that this is not meant to be a “sporty-leisure” piece like an Oak. As I have said in the past, despite its price, Davidoff’s “Royal Release” Salomones calibre is one of the best cigars money can buy. Or at least it was... Unfortunately, due to the Chineese-Cuban cigar crisis they have experience a more than 50% price rise making the Royal Release a very questionable buy. A price increase by Davidoff and direct consequence of the Chinese distributor repositioning COHIBA, Trinidad and Montecristo as luxury product. A price increase in some cases three times what they used to cost. Despite that it was/is a controversial decision by Davidoff to increase their prices based solely on marketing strategy rather than scarcity or supply issues. A controversial decision that “apparently” hasn’t been working all that well for the Chinese distributor and I suspect it has’t either for Davidoff. For instance, this last Chinese zodiac “Year of the Dragon” edition by Davidoff isn’t doing to well either apart from beeing VERY available all over the place... 🇨🇳&🇨🇺 Despite its once approximately 100 💵/💶 per cigar, the Royal Release Salomones was back then (at that price) a good purchase considering that this is a cigar that should last you well over two hour (sometimes even close to three) and that the tobacco is hands down the best I have smoked from outside Cuba. The Royal Release has a wonderful initial half hour followed by a spectacular hour. A festival that concluded with a magic last hour that you wished never ended. As with many Dominican leaves, the beginnings are mediocre but the ends are memorable. At 150 💵/💶 the price-quality relation is VERY questionable.
