It is a huge transition from the womb into the world as we know it so I include the 4th trimester up to 4 months in my 'newborn' support. They may cry when they have their nappy changed or are given a bath because it all totally new and uncomfortable for them. They have no clue about night and day, when they should be sleeping, who the new visitors are they want to cuddle them all day. A newborn needs a lot of guidance, reassurance, comfort, and emotional connection with those closest to them. Babies aren't ready for independent sleep until at least 4 months. So what would my sleep support with a newborn look like? After reviewing your questionnaire and very flexible sleep diary, my support for newborn's is currently 2 weeks long supporting baby and mum by looking at: 🌙 Wake windows and sleep cues 🌙 The science behind sleep 🌙 Sleep environment 🌙 Day and night confusion 🌙The 4th trimester Besides working on these depending on the age of the newborn we may also look at things such as introducing a comforter (for day use only under 6 months) or creating a bedtime routine (9-12 weeks once melatonin and their body clock is produced). 🌟 It can be a very daunting time bringing a newborn into the world, battling sleep deprivation yourself, not knowing quite what to do. As a mum of 2 I can offer relatable support and be in your back pocket with my daily WhatsApp support. If you do feel like you would benefit from some guidance send me a message with the word NEWBORN or book a free call in my bio above. These are the common baby development milestone that affects sleep 🔁 Rolling Over - Your baby might fight sleep if they want to practice this skill in the night, might wake themselves up in the night by rolling over in their sleep, and then become confused and upset. 🤗 Starting to crawl- Crawling can disrupt sleep if your baby wants to practice it at night which may lead to nighttime breakouts if you have a Houdini baby on your hands! 🪑 Sitting When you could previously just lay them down on their back in a sleeping position and know they'd stay that way, they can now sit right back up again if they feel inclined! 🧍‍♂️ Standing Up -Now not only can your little one refuse to lay down to sleep, but they will also stand to protest longer, or they may even climb out of the cot if you aren't careful! Top 3 tips to stop developmental milestones from worsening your baby’s sleep. 💗 If your baby wakes at night and is happy or quiet in the crib, leave him! 💗 If your baby wakes at night and is upset, wait a few minutes give them space to work out themselves then lay them back down to sleep 💗 Offer plenty of practice for new skills during the day to improve muscle memory What milestone has your little one recently hit? #melbournemums #melbournesleepconsultant #toddlersleep #babysleepcoach #sleepexpert #parentinginthewild #sleepsupport #babysleeptraining #childsleep #gentlesleepcoach #sleepadvice #babysleepsolutions #babysleepproblems #realmomlife #momtips #sleephygiene #sleephelp #babysleepconsultant #babysleepexpert #safesleep #babysleeptips #babysleephelp #breastfeedingjourney #sleepdeprived #nursingbaby #sydneysleepconsultant #aussiemums #sydneymums #sydneymumsandkids #mumsofsydney

The unspoken feelings of sleep deprivation! Having a baby is filled with so much excitement, love and joy! But were you ever prepared to feel like this? It's the silent struggle that many of us know all too well. It's the exhaustion that weighs us down, the fog that clouds our minds, and the constant battle between wanting to rest and needing to care for our little ones. In those quiet moments of the night, when the world is asleep and we're the only ones awake, the feelings of loneliness and isolation can be overwhelming. We question if we're doing enough, if we're enough. But amidst the fatigue and frustration, there's a resilience that we possess. We find strength in our love for our children. So to all the tired mammas out there, know that you're not alone. Your sacrifices are seen and appreciated. And when the morning comes, remember to be kind to yourself. You're doing the best you can, and that's more than enough 💕 Jess xx #sleephelp #babysleephelp #sleepconsultant #exhaustedmama #tiredmumma #sleepdeprived #mumssupportingmums #pnd #postnataldepression #postnatalanxiety #motherhood #toddlersleephelp #postnatal #melbournemums #sleepsupport #sleepwell #melbournemumsandbubs #mumsandbubs #BabySleep #sleepadvice #SleepTraining #parenthood #sydneymums #sleepsolutions #sleep #motherhood #fourthtrimester #newborn #firsttimemum

DAY 3-6: Emma was finally getting used to the time change and every day woke up later and later. During the week is when I finally let go of my expectations and let things flow as they would. I recently saw something about the 80/20 rule and I would say this is exactly what I lived by on this trip. 🌟 The 80/20 rule is a great guide so you can find balance in parenthood. You stick to routines and schedules 80% of the time, and accept changes in routines (example: travel) 20% of the time. This will still create a balance for you to live a life filled with structure and solid routine on a day to day basis, but it gives you the peace of mind to also be able to go out and enjoy without feeling like a failure to your family or to your kid. 🌟 Day 3 I still tried to have Emma nap in a bedroom with me but it was a fail. From that afternoon on, she ended up sleeping on us or in the stroller. She began with 40 minutes of napping on day 3, to 1 hour 30 minute naps by day 6. Kids are so resilient and can adapt to any situation. Seriously. 🌟 There was no way to have her in bed by 8:30pm every night so she was pretty much wiped out every night. We would do a quick bedtime routine with bathing, brushing teeth, pjs and a snack. The snack was my incentive to her to keep her in bed. She was going to bed independently every night and that was a total WIN! Talk about balance! We finally had a system that was working for us! But life can’t be that simple lol. We were headed to a beach vacation that weekend with one bedroom for the three of us 🤣 Follow me to learn more about how we worked through our mini dream beach vacation! #momshelpingmoms #honestmom #unfilteredmotherhood #motherhoodlife #thatmomlife #parentingstruggles #toddlerparenting #toddlermama #babysleeptips #babysleep #sleeptraining #momtipsandtricks #toddlertips #momadvice #pediatricsleepconsultant #sleepconsultant #sleepadvice #toddlersleeptips #toddlersleep #traveltips #toddlertravel #findbalance #nooneisperfect

+ 𝗙𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄 @babeedreamss for daily tips on sleep and general baby info Do you have a baby who wakes at the slightest sound—a pin drop, a creak in the door, or the light peeping through? A baby who doesn’t nap for long and needs wider wake windows, yet overall seems happy? If so, your baby might be a light sleeper and/or has low sleep needs. Honestly, it’s perfectly normal. If your baby is healthy, happy, and content despite having less sleep than average, that’s perfectly fine! Do they wake easily, regardless of your efforts to minimise disturbances? You can’t alter the fact that they’re light sleepers because that’s just who they are! Between the years of 3-7 children do so much growing up and they can also have a lot to deal with perhaps a new sibling is arriving, moving house, starting school, friendships worries or night anxieties such as being afraid of the dark. During these years you may be dealing with bedtime battles or delay tactics. My support for children does of course look different to the support I give for a baby for example. 🙋‍♀️So what would my sleep support with a child look like? After reviewing your questionnaire and sleep diary, and being mindful of what may be going on for your child to start with we would spend a week or so on the foundations where I would look at and if needed tweak 🌙Bedtime and night wakings 🌙Sleep environment 🌙Nutrition 🌙Increasing the emotional connection between them and their caregiver 🌙Making them feel safe and secure in their own sleep space If needed we would look at gentle sleep techniques but at this age it is a lot about teaching them how to help themselves during the night. Techniques for situations for example where they may be unsettled due to a nightmare, they may keep calling you for a drink or maybe they are struggling to rearrange their duvet on themselves. With the older children I can send them personal video messages which is a lovely added touch to give encouragement and praise when they are making changes. Always remember "it's not a problem unless its a problem for you!" If you do feel like you would benefit from some guidance send me a message for a chat or or book a free call in my bio above. Tummy Sleepers✨ 👉🏼Send to a new parent or save this post👈🏼

When your baby learns how to roll, chances are they’ll be rolling when they’re in their cot and if you’re one of those parents that definitely have a tummy sleeper and are constantly flipping them over during the night, sometimes you don’t have to ➡️ If they can lift their head and move it side to side showing strong neck control. Before you start leaving them on their tummy to sleep, there are some guidelines to follow to ensure they’ll be safe. ✅𝗠𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝗨𝗡𝗦𝗪𝗔𝗗𝗗𝗟𝗘𝗗 If your baby starts showing signs of rolling, you must unswaddle your baby whether they’re a back or tummy sleeper. A great alternative are sleeping bags.

✅𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 For the first year of your baby’s life, you 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝘁 put them on their back when you place them into their cot. If they roll afterwards, that’s ok. ✅𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗯𝗮𝗯𝘆’𝘀 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 If your baby has mastered rolling, than most likely they’re mobile with their hands and arms, which means their constantly grabbing stuff and putting it on or near their face. Make sure your baby’s face is always uncovered when sleeping. ✅𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝘂𝗺𝗺𝘆 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 Even if your baby is a boss tummy roller and has great head control, continue to practise rolling and tummy time to keep strengthening those muscles. ✅𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 Tummy sleeper or not, your baby’s cot needs to be safe. Ways to have a safe sleep environment: 👉🏻Firm surface 👉🏻Tight-fitted sheets
👉🏻No loose bedding, soft pillows, or stuffed toys 👉🏻No bumpers 👉🏻Room temperate isn’t too hot or too cold ___________

Rolling over and tummy sleep generally begins when your baby is 3-4 months old, if you find that your baby has had their 4 month sleep regression and sleep continues to be a struggle, I can give the guidance and support you need to get sleep on track. Use the link in my bio to explore my 𝘀𝗹𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗴𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗲𝘀 and 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘀.

✨NEWBORN SLEEP✨ On average newborns should be getting between 16-20 hours sleep within a 24 hour period. As they get older, this will gradually reduce as their wake window increases. It is perfectly normal for your baby to have multiple naps throughout the day at this stage. Your baby is growing rapidly and undergoing physical development, it's tiring 😂 It is very common for newborns to enter the world with their day and night upside down. To help switch these around try the following steps 👉 ☀️ Expose your baby to daylight and fresh air in the day as much as possible. ☀️Aim to have day feeds and naps within normal noise of everyday life. ☀️Rouse your baby at feed times during the day. 🌙 Introduce a simple bedtime routine early on. 🌙 Keep night feeds in the dark, whilst keeping interaction and noise to a minimum. I highly recommend the use of an amber light, as this does not inhibit melatonin production. Do you have any newborn tips? #newbornsleep #gentleapproach #newbornsleeptips #gentlesleepconsultant #sleeptips #sleepadvice #dayandnight #sleepingbabies

The toddler years are busy and active! In their little world they may be learning new physical skills, experiencing nightmare or night terrors, attending childcare or groups, welcoming a new sibling, separation anxiety, expanding their vocabulary the list is endless. Some toddlers will have higher sleep needs than others, they may be easy going or spirited I always put the personality and temperament of your toddler at the front of my support and go at their pace. 🙋‍♀️So what would my sleep support with a toddler look like? After reviewing your questionnaire and sleep diary, and being mindful of what may be going on for your toddler to start with we would spend a week or so on the foundations where I would look at and if needed tweak 🌙 Routines 🌙 Nap structure 🌙 Sleep environment 🌙 Nutrition 🌙Increasing the emotional connection between them and parent 🌙 Making them feel safe and secure in their space Once we have worked on these and we have solid foundations, depending on your individual parental goal, I would then look at adding in gentle sleep techniques whether your looking to teach your little ones to self settle or sleep for longer periods. 🌟 At this age two key foundations I will promote are CONSISTENCY and COMMUNICAITON this can be tough when we are sleep deprived or trying to make changing. Let’s look into some things that could help with short naps    + 𝗙𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄 @babeedreamss for daily tips on sleep and general baby info   NAP ROUTINE
Establishing a short version of a bedtime routine can signal to your baby that sleep is about to happen. Here’s an example of a 10-15 minute routine that can help them wind down: 1️⃣ Take them to their room: Dimming or turning off the lights signals it’s time to sleep and promotes the release of melatonin. 2️⃣ Nappy change: If needed. 3️⃣ Sleeping bag: Keeps them cozy and eliminates the need for loose blankets. 4️⃣ Lullaby/Story: Set a calming mood with a gentle lullaby or brief story. 5️⃣ Put them down awake   SLEEP ENVIRONEMNT ✅ Dark room
✅ Sound machine
✅ Temperature: maintain a comfortable temp (adjust layers accordingly)   SLEEP PRESSURE
Have they filled their “sleep bucket?” 🪣 Two main contributors are wake windows and how stimulated they’ve been during their wake times. Finding their sweet spot with wake windows is a delicate balance between being under-tired and over-tired:
4 - 7/8 months = 2 – 3 hours
8 – 12/14 months = 3 – 4 hours
12/13 – 24 months = 4 – 6 hours
*guide only*
Encourage lots of playtime or engaging activities to help them become tired enough when it’s time for bed and expose them to sunlight during wake windows.

FALL ASLEEP WITHOUT ASSISTANCE
Encourage them to fall asleep independently. A baby who can fall asleep can also fall back to sleep and a short nap is the inability to link sleep cycles.
YOUNGER THAN FOUR MONTHS
Short naps are normal and can range anywhere between 20 minutes to 2 hours. Naps become more consolidated from 4 months onwards when sleep cycles mature and regulate. 📩 SHARE this post or tag someone ______________
Before the age of four months, formal sleep training isn’t recommended, but you can begin introducing healthy sleep habits to promote better sleep. If you find yourself needing guidance, I have a sleep guide specifically designed for infants aged 0-3 months.

Doing all of the above, yet you’re still not sleeping well? Functional lab testing may be the missing piece to resolve sleep issues, gut issues, weight issues and other hormonal issues! Functional lab testing can give you a closer look at WHY things are happening in your body — and not just give you a bandaid solution. Lab testing allows for a customized game plan to fix the things you’re experiencing. If you find that you are doing “all the things” right to sleep better and NOTHING is working — let’s try some functional lab work. We can check your gut health, mineral levels and even see if you have parasites — which can be a major culprit in poor sleep. Do you check all these boxes? If so, please reach out to me via DM or book a discovery call at the link in bio. 😴 Do YOU find yourself STRUGGLING with sleep each night and feel all over the place for the day ahead? 😴 Here are 5 effective ways to enhance your sleep quality and support hormone health! 🌙 1. Aim to go to bed and wake up at the same time every day, even on weekends. This helps regulate your body's internal clock (circadian rhythm), promoting better hormone production and balance. 2. Develop calming pre-sleep rituals like reading, gentle stretching, or taking a warm bath. Avoid stimulating activities (e.g., screens, intense exercise) at least an hour before bedtime to signal to your body that it's time to wind down. 3. Keep your bedroom dark, quiet, and cool (15-20°C) for optimal sleep conditions. Invest in a comfortable mattress and pillows that support restful sleep. 4. Minimise screen time from devices (phones, tablets, computers) that emit blue light, which can disrupt melatonin production and interfere with sleep. Use blue light filters on electronic devices or wear blue light-blocking glasses in the evening. 5. Avoid large meals, caffeine, and heavy or spicy foods close to bedtime. Limit alcohol consumption, as it can disrupt sleep patterns and negatively affect hormone balance. Stay hydrated throughout the day but reduce fluid intake in the evening to minimise nighttime awakenings. COMMENT which one of these you struggle with the most right now and SHARE this with someone who struggles too. #hormonehealth #hormonecoach #healthcoach #hormoneadvice #balancedhormones #healthyhormones #hormonesupport #naturalhormones #healthoptimisation #holistichealth #healthyliving #nutritionforhealth #healthyeating #stressrelief #womenhealth #empoweringwomen #menopausesupport #wellnesscoach #wellness #coach #healthtips #selfcare #sleepadvice #sleepschedule #bedtimeroutine #sleepwellness

Frequent night wakings 🌙 One of the most common questions I get is, why does my baby wake up every hour or 2 throughout the night- what am I doing wrong? Here are my top 8 most common reasons why were seeing frequent wakings: 1. Adjust WW to be age appropriate. Having an over or under tired babe throughout the day can impact overnight sleep. 2. Regressions/sickness/travel. Babes going through a regression like teething, learning milestones, traveling or not feeling well etc can cause temporarily night wakings. 3. Remove anything or anyone getting your babe to that drowsy or fully asleep state. We want your LO going down 100% awake. 4. A parents response can actual reinforce these wakings. If your babe is waking and you’re rocking them back to sleep or bringing babe back into your bed this can cause a habit thats hard to break, if that’s not something you want long term. 5.Having a set nap/bedtime routine prepares your babe for what they can expect next. Babes thrive off of routine and predictablility. 6. Load up on those calories throughout the day so your LO isn’t looking for them so frequently at night. 7. Always lay babe down 100% awake for nap/bedtime. 8. Check that their room is dark, cool, and sound machine is running for entire duration of sleep Questions? For babies taking two or more naps a day and in good health, we don’t really want a single nap to exceed 2 hours. If your baby or toddler takes only one nap, limit the nap to 3 hours. This way, we can ensure they are not missing a feed, are not getting day/night confusion and will not be under tired for their overnight sleep! #sleeptips #sleepadvice #sleepconsultant #babysleep #naptime #babynaps #sleepconsultantuk

Good quality sleep is ESSENTIAL to fat loss. Critical. SWIPE for guidance on creating the perfect nighttime routine to achieve optimal sleep quality…. You can thank a triple threat of hormones that go haywire with too little sleep: ghrelin, which makes you crave fatty and sugary foods; leptin, which regulates how much you eat; and cortisol, which tells your body to hold on to visceral fatty tissue around the abdominals. Unfortunately, many people struggle with poor sleep due to various factors, including their nighttime routine and sleep environment. This post aims to provide guidance on creating the perfect nighttime routine to achieve optimal sleep quality, which is essential for successful weight loss. #sleeptips #sleep #sleepadvice

DAY 2: We were already so tired and the trip had only begun. Emma woke up at 5:25 am which I cannot be mad at because that is 6:25 am back home and that’s completely acceptable and understandable. I knew her body would take a couple of days to adjust. 🌟 The plan at this point was to stick to 12:30 pm nap time so that her body can start to change to the new time in Colombia. 🌟 Nap time? What nap? lol! First off, we had an event in the morning and then a lunch. Nap time was already getting pushed back to a later time. She is used to a very dark room with black out curtains back home. This room had so much light coming in, she thought it was time to party. IDK how daycare can get her to sleep (they are magical). I tried to lay down with her to see if we could successfully repeat bedtime from the night before. I was laying there seizing the moment and trying to rest myself but this little girl had other plans. She was role playing and putting me to sleep 😂. She kept covering me with the blanket and patting my back like how they do with her at daycare. She was going up and down the bed readjusting the bed sheet. I do not even know how long we tried but this was totally a nap FAIL! 🌟 Early bird special in the morning + no nap = extremely overtired Emma. We had an event that morning but we also had an event in the evening. This time we made an effort to get home at a reasonable time and thank goodness we did. We decided to use our sleep training method of choice in order for all of us to get the rest we needed and Emma was lights out in her room catching 💤 by herself with her paw patrol sheets by 8:15 pm. PROGRESS! Day 2, I was still optimistic that I could keep her schedule as close to her normal as possible. It was the weekend but we were about to head into the week and I thought maybe that would bring some normalcy. Boy was I wrong! Does alcohol help or hurt? Four themes: 1. Fall asleep faster 2. More deep sleep in first half of night, less REM 3. Less deep sleep in second half and more fragmented sleep. 4. As your baby grows and develops, they’ll be able to handle more awake time between naps, and between the last nap of the day and bedtime. You’ll want to stretch their awake times to help them get better quality naps, so it’s something to pay attention to, especially if it’s taking your baby a while to fall asleep or if SHORT NAPS are becoming a thing. When you think it’s time to stretch their awake time, remember that we are asking your child to become briefly OVERTIRED because we are going to be stretching them past that point that they’re usually used to falling asleep at. Here’s what I recommend doing ⤵️ Start the beginning of the window of awake time with smaller activities, like sitting in the bumbo or doing some tummy time. Then, move onto bigger movement…floor play, going outside (just not in the stroller!), blowing bubbles, doing some water play - really anything that’s super engaging for them. We want to keep them distracted and happy and not focused on how sleepy they might feel towards the end of the awake time. 🚨If your baby ever reaches the point of crying inconsolably, then you may have pushed the window a bit too far. Remember, crying isn’t bad…it’s just their way of communicating that they’re done and past that point of overtiredness. It’s nap time!🚨 What are your favourite activities for keeping your baby awake? 👉🏻Comment below ⤵️

⭐️ Save this post for future reference if you have this transition to come! ⭐️ As Emilia is currently going through the transition from her cot to a bed, we thought we would share with you what has worked for us. Hopefully the tips below will help to make the transition as smooth as possible. 🛌 Wait until little one is atleast 2.5 years old, if you can wait until 3 years, even better. 🛌 Lots of conversation and excitement about the change in the lead up. 🛌 Get them involved with choosing which bedding/pjs/teddy for that first night. 🛌 Ensure the whole room is safe. 🛌 Sticker charts and sleep-wake clocks can be really helpful. 🛌 You may want to use a bed guard for some extra safety to begin with. 🛌 Use the same bedtime routine as you usually would. 🛌 Praise praise praise in the mornings! I don’t want to speak too soon but Emilia has coped pretty well with the transition, only coming out of her room a handful of times. We were so nervous to make this change as she has always been our tricky sleeper! How did the transition go for you? Or if you have it to come, how are you feeling about it?
