January Photo Dump Our first month in not sunny San Diego 🤣 A few things we can confirm are entirely true: - there is always something to do in San Diego - everyone is super chill, feels like stress does not exist here - everywhere you look there is a palm tree, a surfer running towards the beach with its surfboard to catch some waves before sunset - even though it’s a big city, nature is everywhere. You’re surfing amongst birds fishing, a squirrel comes to say hello when you’re walking around & sea lions are napping at the beach - you can feel you are just across the Mexican boarders: Mexican food, Latino songs,… Things we haven’t been able to confirm yet, but we can’t wait: - it’s always sunny and nice temperature (it has been wet and cold since we arrived ahah) - surfing amongst dolphins - spotting whales and sharks - desert is just outside the city 👉 which city have you been to that really left a mark?? 🇫🇷 quelques photos du mois de janvier, notre premier mois à San Diego pas trop ensoleillé 😅 Quelques éléments que nous avons déjà pu vérifier: - il y a toujours quelque chose à faire à SD - l’ambiance est hyper chill - partout où tu regardes il y a un palmier et un surfeur en train de courir la planche sous le bras pour aller choper des vagues au coucher du soleil - bien que ce soit une grosse ville la nature est très présente: tu surfes au milieu des oiseaux qui pêchent, des écureuils viennent te voir quand tu marches & les otaries font la sieste tranquille sur la plage - tu sens que le Mexique n’est pas loin: nourriture mexicaine, sons latinos,… Ce que nous n’avons pas encore pu vérifier mais nous avons hâte de le faire: - il fait toujours beau et chaud à sd 🤣 - surfer au milieu des dauphins - observer les baleines et les requins - le désert est juste à proximité de la ville 👉 quelle ville as tu visite qui t’a vraiment marquée ? #visitsd #sandiegocestbeau #expatlife #expatliving #expatfrench #socal #sandiego #california

Mission Bay 💎 Pour ceux ou celles qui doutent encore que cette baie a été faite par l'homme, regardez les photos 📷 suivantes 👉 Pour la petite histoire: il a été décidé après la seconde guerre mondiale de créer une zone de loisirs et récréatif 🎉🤿pour touristes et locaux sur San Diego. Imaginez tout ce sable et terre qu'il a fallu creuser pour laisser rentrer l'océan ! C'est un de mes endroits préférés sur San Diego pour faire du kayak, paddle, catamaran ⛵️ou tout simplement se balader en vélo ou aller courir 🏃♀️. Il avait des discussions en cours car une partie est protégée pour étudier la faune 🐟 et la flore 🌸 qui se sont installés depuis plus de 50 ans mais forcément des développeurs voulaient en faire un complexe plus luxueux avec restaurants and co (au niveau des anciens campings pour ceux qui connaissent). J'espère que rien ne changera et qu'on laissera aux scientifiques le bonheur d'étudier les fonds et oiseaux migrateurs. Quelqu'un sait où cela en est ?

San Diego Zoo 🦁 Celui-ci est de renommée mondiale 🙌🌎. Grande de plus de 8 mètres de haut, cette statue de bronze 🥉 accueil les voyageurs. Vous pouvez admirer sa grandeur mais aussi cette prouesse artistique 🎆 de ne tenir que sur une patte alors que cette statue pèse plus de 9000 kg 🗿. Rire 😂 Parfois il faut mieux rire que pleurer 😢. Je ne sais plus ce que l'on me disait lors de ce tour🚶🏻♀️en novembre dernier (notez le beau t-shirt de la marque @sandiegocestbeau 😉) mais même si j'avais le cœur 💔 lourd à cette époque car je savais que mon entreprise n'allait pas où je voulais, cela n'empêchait pas d'apprécier ces doux moments 💐 en bonne compagnie. Je ris donc aujourd'hui mais j'ai grave les boules de cette guerre en Ukraine, de ces peuples qui souffrent des décisions stupides politiques, économiques et maintenant de défense de leurs élus. Aucune guerre n'est justifiée, ce ne sera jamais la solution aux conflits. On est (presque ?) sortis d'une pandémie et on nous balance une 3ieme guerre mondiale. Que dire à nos enfants ? Et pendant ce temps-là, la Planète 🌎 que l'on pollue sans cesse, on n'en parle pas. Tout va bien. Alors rions...
Balboa Theater 🎭 Contrairement à son nom, ce théâtre ne se situe pas dans le parc urbain de #balboaparksandiego mais downtown San Diego, dans la partie historique du Gaslamp. 🤓Construit en 1924, de style mauresque et espagnol, il fut rénové en 2015. Dana Point 🏄♂️ Ce week-end nous sommes partis 🚌 au nord de San Diego county, à Orange County (ou OC). Il y avait une série 🎬 qui s'appelait d'ailleurs "Newport Beach" en français mais en v.o, The OC en anglais au début des années 2000 avec le bel @ohadambrody 😍. Qui l'a regardait aussi ? ⬇️ Nous avons été d'abord à San Juan Capistrano, voir la mission ⛪️ mais comme j'avais déjà fait un article 🤓 dessus, je vous le met en story pour les nouveaux. Puis, nous sommes allés à Dana Point à environ 15min de San Juan Capistrano soit 45min au nord de San Diego. Bref, il faisait beaucoup plus chaud qu'à San Diego et nous y avons rencontré, par hasard, dans une bonne boulangerie française @moulin des gens trop sympas qui nous ont conseillé la Salt Creek Beach 🌊 avec le joli mural de Aleena Malik en photo 📷. Cabrillo Bridge 🌉 Voici deux points de vue différents, où prendre en photo 📸 le Cabrillo Bridge, à Balboa Park. On traverse souvent ce pont long de plus de 450 mètres qui nous offre une vue exceptionnelle 🤩🤩🤩 sur notre #downtownsd Mais en sait-on vraiment l’origine ? Construit pour l’exposition Panama-California de 1915 il est copié sur le modèle d’un pont existant vers Tolède, en Espagne. En effet, les architectes initiaux de la Panama-California Exposition décidèrent de faire des bâtiments basés sur la culture Espagnol, Mexicaine ou Native American plutôt que le néo-classique qui se faisait à l’époque 💡.
Philadelphie 📜 Zom' étant devenu récemment américain 🥳, il se retrouve donc sans greencard et sans passeport. Impossible, de ce fait, de quitter le territoire Américain pour les fêtes. Nous avons donc décidé (bon, nous, je vous l'accorde, c'est plutôt "je" 😂), de partir à la recherche de l'histoire 👩🏫de ce pays 🇺🇸. Nan, ça aussi à surgit après... En fait, j'ai googler "où passer les fêtes de Noël 🎄 aux US" et après NYC 🗽que nous connaissons, Washington DC arrivait en 2ieme. Zooooo ✈️ direction Philadelphia (Philly) en premier puis Washington DC (DC) après. J'ai vraiment adoré Philadelphia. Cela m'a rappelé l'Europe, Paris... Pèle mêle sur ces photos 📷, vous y verrez : ✔️ la statue de Rocky (pour la symbolique "we've made it to America and now are American". Enfin kinda pour moi. Cela devrait arriver prochainement. ✔️ Independance Hall ✔️ Old City ✔️ City Hall ✔️ Le bâtiment Art Deco de la Pennsylvania Railroad ✔️ Musée des arts et celui des sciences. Manque faute de place 🤷🏻♀️, les photos de : ChinaTown, Elfreth's Alley, le Temple Masonic le plus grand des US, le Franklin Bridge vu de Penn's landing. Épineux 🎄 n.m couvert d'épines. Qui signifie aussi qui est plein de difficultés, de désagréments, embarrassant, pénible. Ici Noël 🎅 se dit Christmas (la messe du Christ), ce qui a une connotation bien plus religieuse qu'en France puisque Noël n'est pas une traduction directe du mot naissance 📜mais viens du latin. Du coup nous disons tous "Happy Holidays" 🎊🎉pour se fêter de joyeuses fêtes de fin d'année, sans heurter personne. J'aime bien dire mon "Joyeux Noël " (en français) qui correspond à ces fêtes de fin d'année avant de pouvoir sortir "bonne année !!!" 🥳. Tout comme j'aime bien voir toutes les décorations en bleu ciel et blanc pour Hannuka 🕎 et le souhaiter à mes ami.e.s, fêter l'Aïd pour mes ami.e.s musulmans et/ou le Diwali 🔆 pour mes ami.e.s Indiens. 🍻Olivenhain 🍻 Et oui il n'y a pas que les Français 🥖qui ont immigrés à San Diego (entre autres). Mais des...Allemands ! Olivenhain est un quartier d'Encinitas, près de Rancho Santa Fe. Ce mot est la contraction de deux mots en allemand et signifie "Oliveraie" en français 👩🏫. Etablie en 1884 par des migrants Allemands de Denver, le but de cette colonie était de planter des vignes🍇, des orangeraies 🍊(que l'on retrouve sur Rancho Santa Fe), des arbres fruitiers pour en faire des vergers 🍑🍐🍎.
