#Akranes eine Hafenstadt in #vesturland #iceland. Von der Küste aus kann man die Halbinsel #Reykjanes sehen auf der seit monaten der #Vulkan #Sundhnukagigar wütet. Seine Rauchwolken konnte man an der Küste von Akranes (100km entfernung) ziemlich gut erkennen, keine berge dazwischen einfach nur das weite Meer. Der Strand war echt schön und weitläufig, Algen, Steine, Sand, Seeigel und ein Leuchtturm + ein Modell eines früheren Leuchtturms, welcher nur eine kleine Konstruktion mit laterne ist An der Küste gab es außerdem das Stadion der internationalen Fussballmanschaft ÍA Akranes welches direkt am Wasser liegt und für jeden Menschen frei zugänglich ist. Wir hatten an dem Tag ca 2-5 Grad mit Sonne, für die Einheimischen war dies ein Tag um die jacke im Haus zu lassen und die Sonne im T-Shirt zu genießen oder Barfuß am strand zu spazieren und ich muss sagen die Sonne in Island ballert und ich kanns irgendwie verstehen

Still waiting Yesterday was 6 months since we left Grindavík and in that time we have had 4 eruptions and another one might happen. Tho we have found another home we many of us are still waiting to be bought out from our homes, and im one of them. Im hoping that will happen before 1st of june. Its amazing to me that the town that used to be full of life, that used to be the richest town in Iceland does still stand. Does still have water and electricity. Those barriers have saved the town until now as everyone knows and hopefully they will hold the upcoming events cause the history tells us that this is not over tho i pray its all over. Recently, I went to Washington D.C. on behalf of @inspiredbyiceland and @byicelandia for the Taste of Iceland festival! 🇮🇸🥂🇺🇸 I hosted a seminar on Iceland’s volcanism and the ongoing activity on the Reykjanes Peninsula. The crowd was fantastic, with hundreds eager to attend, though only 200 seats were available! 🌋 Some lucky guests won trips to Iceland with @icelandair, and @kristinman and I went on air for Great Day Washington, which was so much fun! 🎥🎬 I managed to get back to Iceland just in time for the current eruption (which seems now to be heading into a short break)! Natomiast nadal trwa akumulacja magmy pod regionem Svartsengi i niewykluczone, że do kolejnej epizodycznej erupcji szczelinowej dojdzie jeszcze w tym roku (może nawet w najbliższych tygodniach). Crater today I went home to day cause i needed my tools from my garage. I took my drone with me and flew up to the crater and this is whats left. You can see them building up another wall closer to town and its happening right where the lava was flowing over the wall last week. I have my batterys charged because we belive the next phase is about to happen, i know we have said that the last few days but the pressure as we speak is higer then last time. That means we could have a similar eruption as last time and the same location or between Stóra Skógfell and Hagafell. A 20-photo collection showcasing the magnificent beauty of the Krýsuvík Volcanic system of Reykjanes Peninsula in Iceland. A home to hundreds of craters, fissures, and lava fields, reaching into the Capital Region of Iceland, Reykjavík. In my opinion, the Krýsuvík system offers some of Iceland’s most beautiful geological sights and formations. It’s like stepping into a geologist’s dream. Explosion craters filled with groundwater, high-temperature geothermal areas, sharp mountain ridges, steep ocean cliffs made from stacked lava flows, breathtaking moss-grown craters and lava fields, and so much more. I’ve spent over six years exploring and photographing the area, and here are some of my favorites. In 2021, a new volcanic period began on the Reykjanes Peninsula, with seven eruptions in two volcanic systems so far, Fagradalsfjall and Svartsengi. Over the past year, we’ve seen increased earthquake activity in the Krýsuvík system, and volcanologists say an eruption there is likely in the next few years. With new eruptions likely in the coming years, we can expect this landscape to change significantly, with new lava flowing over older formations. In its last active period, around 800 years ago, the lava reached the ocean on both sides of the peninsula. If you look at the last picture in this collection, you can see how the Krýsuvík system reaches into the backyard of the Captial Region. Volcanologists have already shown concerns over the system and its proximity to Hafnarfjörður. It will be interesting to see what happens when it properly wakes up.
