Nacho, age 2 3/4 years…by his biggest supporter and GSD lover….Linda. Nacho is a majestic lad. He was starved of any affection before he found himself at Los Infiernos as he was not used to cuddles but now loves a fuss when he trusts you not to hurt him. He is a very undemanding dog - short walk, short fuss and a big dinner I think that would suit Nacho. He loves to be out of his kennel (they all do) and it breaks my heart having to put him back. The noisy shelter environment has made him fearful and with some dogs he can be reactive. However it is definitely not all dogs and with an experienced owner this would easily be resolved as Nacho is keen to please. My muzzle does not equal punishment... A few weeks ago I went to my new vet for the first time for my annual check up and a nail trim. I'm muzzle trained and did really well all things considered with a little help from my happy pills. The muzzle keeps everyone in the room safe and I'm still able to get LOTS of treats and peanut butter with it on. Well apparently it’s Rescue dog day. I don’t usually post here but I feel that sharing Bodhi’s story is really important. Nearly two years ago (in June!) B was found by a Good Samaritan in horrid condition. Bodhi was dehydrated, emaciated, exhausted, full of parasites, full of stickers including foxtails and some were in his skin. B was unable to get himself into the truck and had to be picked up. That person knew if he could get this dog to us we would take care of him. It took us months of work to get him in okay shape. I mean multiple feedings a day, multiple grooming sessions, multiple baths and vet visits. We also found out really early that he is severely allergic to beef and pork and the GI upset is so bad we rushed him to the emergency vet (still to this day if he eats either of those it’s an emergency vet visit due to his extreme reaction). Due to how bad his condition was we did file a police report because if someone tried to claim him we did not want him going back into a bad situation. He had no microchip, we posted online, did the stray hold for the shelter (our shelters are full and will not respond to calls unless the dog is an active threat to people or other animals otherwise they tell you to leave them to die or do a stray hold for them) no one ever claimed him and no one knew this dog. We did our due diligence. B also nearly immediately attached to me, I had lost my second partner two months prior and was very depressed and uninterested in training or handling any dog. Bodhi changed that, I fell head over heels for this dog and boy did I fight it! I kept saying, “No I want a female GSD puppy from Asta’s breeder.” It took both my bf & Sonja telling me, “You are crazy, that’s your dog!” for me to agree. We put B through months and months of testing and exposure because we were unsure if he had the qualities to be a service dog. He has passed everything with flying colors and has remained to this day the most stable and neutral dog we have. Bodhi has turned into a bad ass service dog in training and he has prevented several near misses with my hypoglycemia and he’s been the best demo dog and calm influence on the rest of the crew.

Zeus is feeling a tiny bit better today. He’s still coughing & needs to gain some weight. He was afraid to jump up on the furniture. The tips of his ears are worn down, probably from spending too much time in a crate. He’s so sweet and trusting.
