I get asked this ALOTTTT! Here’s our take on it - I’d love to know what you think 🤔 The Pooki Press is a relief press designed to print relief printmaking plates eg lino, woodblock, letter press. It is possible to print a collagraph if printing the plate in relief but to print all areas below the raised areas on the surface you would ideally need an etching roller press. For this reason we DON’T recommend for Collagraph or other Intaglio Techniques but here are the results from a Pooki Press vs A Etching Roller Press for you to make your decision! Today I’d like to share with you a printmaker’s tool that was sent to me from @pookipresses. Tim, the owner of Pooki Presses asked if I would try his pinch drying rack to see if I liked it, and to recommend it to my followers if I did. In all honesty, I will only recommend products I use and I think would be beneficial for others. This drying rack is now hanging in my studio, drying prints. I truly love it. 🩵 What do I like about it? First off, it’s cute and colorful, because you know, that matters. It’s lightweight, yet very sturdy. The rack can hold up to 20 prints, with prints as large A1. It comes with an adjustable bracket so the rack can hang from the wall permanently, or you can hang it off the back of a chair or drawer and take it down after your prints dry. It’s very easy to use the hanging rack. The light pressure of the bar holds the print in place for drying. The last benefit I see for using this drying rack is that all your prints are drying in one small location. This is especially helpful if you have a small studio space or you are working in a small room where you do not have a lot of space for drying your prints. This rack is compact and convenient. So there you go. That’s my honest review. I hope it’s helpful. Tim has given me a code to pass onto anyone who might be interested in purchasing one of his drying racks. When you buy an original print from a printmaker, you are buying an original piece of art. Every part of the process is done by the printmaker and no two prints are the same. If a press is used it will be operated by hand by the printmaker who has to work out what sort of pressure needs to be applied to get and even layer of ink from the printing block to the paper. I make prints using Lino, Lino printing is a form of relief printing, and I tend you use my wooden spoon to get the ink onto the paper. Commercial prints, sometimes called artist prints or Giclee prints, are not original prints. They are made by reproducing original artwork, the image of the original is captured, digitally edited and then printed by an automated printer, every print is identical. There is a place for reproductions, but they are not originals. I make small editions, a maximum of 10 pictures, hand printed by me, my inky fingers and my friend the wooden spoon or my hand operated Pooki Press.
