Like I mentioned in my Sabre Island post, the original Broadside’s Brig was one of my top three Pirate sets. The main reason was that it included more bluecoats as well as a nice little fort to add to my Eldorado Fortress. After I built my Sabre Island remake MOC, I wanted to complete the trilogy from my childhood. This is my last Pirates remake for a little while. I loved working on these last few MOCs and I have more ideas for the future. For now, I have a bunch of Castle MOCs that I have been meaning to post but never had time to properly photograph. "The Pirate Island", Painting by Alton R. Lowe "“Oh, that’s only Pelican Cay!”, you say. But for a boy of ten with a keen imagination it was “Pirate Island”. Mystery and adventure awaited a visit to the island—and always there was the possibility of finding TREASURE! During the summer when the sea was calm daddy would let me use his boat. It had a Briggs and Stratton motor and although slow, my friends and I could go around Green Turtle Cay to Gillam Bay and Pelican Cay for a day of fun and adventure. In those days, the island was owned by Miss Les, the lady who gave me my first art lessons. The island was unspoiled and the perfect place to pretend to be pirates from another era. The island at that time had a large number of coconut trees along with spider lilies and the purple railroad vine. Birds were everywhere, and the rocks had plenty of whelks and curbs which we could eat. In season, the coconuts provided coconut water. We also could fish for baby sharks and even larger fish which we often took home (The sharks we threw back in the ocean). Many a day was spent with my friends on that island. My painting brings back wonderful memories of those days. I was in my dark ages when 6266 Cannon Cove was in stores, so I became aware of it later. Although I prefer the blue Imperials to the red, the set is a good companion to the 6277 Trading Post and is a nicer building than 6263 Imperial Outpost.
