This is Making More Mischief: Folk Costume in Britain at The London College of Fashion @lcflondon_ The exhibition is a glorious celebration of local traditions, customs, folklore, festivals and carnival and the costumes that are an essential part of them. There’s everything from mummers, morris men and clowns to pearly kings and queens. I particularly loved the DIY element - almost all the costumes are handmade - and are usually recycled or upcycled. They are really fun and creative, often with a subversive element. Best of all, it’s a joyful celebration of community. It’s also free! My personal favourites are the outfits of the pearlies. Fishy lunch at Pearly Queen over in Shoreditch. As much fun fish experimentation as Cornerstone in Hackney Wick. 🦪 P E A R L Y Q U E E N • Now, what a stunning meal this was. I recently visited the newly opened @pearlyqueenshoreditch for a catch up dinner with one of the girls.. and wow, we were impressed. This is deffo a new gem to add to your list; all of the dishes are so innovative and quirky - not to mention they tasted amazing 🤩 🐟 What did we order: • Sourdough with Seaweed Butter - Guys, this butter was just heaven. I slathered it on that bread like there was no tomorrow 😄 • Crispy Buffalo Oyster with Ranch Dressing - These were delish. So different from your standard oyster and the flavours worked • Crab Risotto Fritter with Wild Garlic & Truffle - Just WOW. Firstly the presentation of this dish was sensational and it tasted so yummy, very rich! • Cuttlefish “Bourguignon” with Seaweed Gremolata - Again amazing taste, super soft fish .. just wish this was a bigger portion • Cod with Roast Chicken Butter Sauce & Wild Mushrooms - I love a good cod dish and this didn’t disappoint. Cooked to perfection and beaut flavour sauce • Mashed Potato with Guinness & Oyster Gravy - OMG the best mash I’ve had in a while, so rich and creamy and that gravy on it… heaven • Sticky Toffee Madeleines with Vanilla Mascarpone - Something a little different to your sticky toffee pud but just as good, so sweet and delightful .. these were so yum and perfect to share as richhh • Margaritas - 🍸 They make a good marg, hit the spot ✨ I loved the cosy vibe of the restaurant with low lighting and quirky wall art & interiors. This makes a great date night spot or special occasion meal. As you all might have gathered by now… I just love, love love love LOOOOVVVVEE BLIMIN DENIM!!!!!. I’ve pretty much worn it everyday of my life since I was a teenager… I can’t get enough of it!💙. My ideas for designing with denim are simply never ending. I love the differing shades of indigo… the structure, the wear… definitely the more worn out the better… . I’ve been surprised lately that a couple of my pearly Queen denim Levi jackets haven’t sold… Very puzzling because usually when I absolutely love something… there’s always at least one other person who does too. But this fab ‘Buttons and bows’ jacket has been sitting quietly & sad in my shop for longer than I like…. Sooo… why not up cycling the upcycled!!?. So, quite simply, I chopped her about a bit & morphed her with my Dowager design. Along with fab sewing from my Annie…(her fingers were aching with all that denim) the ‘Teddy Girl’ . Was created!. I blimin love her even more now… with her ‘Teddy boy’ vibes… I’m thinking she might be a keeper….
