It’s important to understand the why behind programming. Why are you doing higher rep squats with a lighter load? Why are you only doing three reps with a heavy load? When you have a better understanding on programming, you’re much more likely to stick to the game plan, have higher success rates with your goals, and be more in tune with your body on which program your body responds to best in ratio to which method you enjoy the most! This is just a small look at some of the methods you can look into. But know that there are many other considerations like specificity, fatigue management, and individualization when it comes to programming. A good coach will not only build you a program that best suits you, your progress, and your goals, but have constant communication with you to make sure you’re headed in the right direction. After 2 weeks of a hodgepodge workout schedule, I’m finding my groove and consistency again. Between balancing a newborn, work, online clients, and time with my amazing wife, temptations lead me to more than one excuse to skip out on my workouts or slack on my nutrition. I’ve always told clients “You just have to find time”. Let me tell you, I was wrong.... You have to make time and prioritize it in your day. Whether that’s waking up earlier, cutting out that TV or social media time, or prepping for your next day. Whatever it is, you need to prioritize the time for not only yourself, but your health. Ask any one of my online clients. Every single client had to go through a consultation to not only discover goals, but to understand if they were ready for actual change. I can encourage, motivate, and be a form of accountability, but I can’t make you want it. I’m not going to be there to pull that cookie out of your hand, pull you out of bed for your morning workout, or stop you from having that glass of wine. That’s on you. You could even have a support team such as a significant other, friend, or coworker. These things are tools, they are not the answer in determining if you’re ready for change. You want to better your health? What if things in life aren’t optimal? Will you still want it? If you have your health prioritized, you won’t let anything get in the way. At the end of the day, your health is your responsibility. Own it!
