W E S T Did you know that there is a long narrow strip along the coast between Old Hunstanton and Holme that is designated as an SSSI (Site of Specific Scientific Interest). We are lucky to have 163 SSSI’s within Norfolk, as designated by @naturalengland Designation as an SSSI gives legal protection to the most important wildlife and geological sites. Habitats include reed beds, salt marshes, freshwater lagoons and sand or shingle beaches. The area is also archealogically significant, with many artefacts that have been discovered here. Most of the areas are only accessible via walking paths, so it really is the best way to get out and see these beautiful landscapes. B O O K M A R K I T 📚 Norfolk Libraries are encouraging local communities to visit their library buildings and engage with a number of activities. These activites are sometimes a one-off, but often the sessions are a weekly fixture and most of them are free, making them accessible for all. We visited Wells Library for one of their after-school craft sessions on a Friday. Each week has a different themed approach with an assorted craft, and they also gather a range of books that relate to the topic. Our session was seal related which was apt for the local area. We were greeted warmly by the staff who explained how to create the craft, with examples on the table. Zachary and Eliza quickly got stuck in to transforming their paper plates into a seal using a range of materials. We were joined by other children and their parents, who told us they often pop in on their way home from school and described a range of different crafts they had previously completed. Once we had finished our crafted seals, Zachary and Eliza enjoyed selecting some books to take home. This is such an important part of encouraging children to use the library service and they love scanning their books out independently on the self-serve computers. In addition to regular craft sessions, many of the libraries also run a Lego club and bounce and rhyme sessions for babies and toddlers. T H E L O B S T E R Not somewhere I have ever stepped into before, but the @sheringhamlobster on the main high street reopened about a month ago following refurbishment and it tempted me in! Specifically the sunny courtyard (of which they have two! One either side of the building) We popped in yesterday as the kids had a birthday party and we had a couple of hours to kill. Even though it was a sunny day, and we were sat outside in the sunshine, we both chose to sample their Sunday Roast. As vegetarians, our dish of choice was the Mushroom Wellington, £15.50 and we ordered a side of cauliflower cheese for £3.00. What we didn’t realise until afterwards is that all the roast plates include unlimited top-ups of roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings and gravy! Zachary would have been in his element! So if you like to fill your boots, then this may well be the pub of choice for you ☺️ Kids wise, they do a child’s roast portion which works out roughly half price, or the ‘build your plate concept’ consisting of a main plate and pudding for just £6.00 (usual child-friendly options of burgers, chicken goujons, sausages and fish) From their website it looks like they are running a 25% off food offer between 15th and 19th of April if you quote 25FOOD when booking.
