Ecoprinting today. From some of the plants I foraged last week. It always amazes me the colors that come out of new plants I've never tried before. These are 1. Mayapples 2. Wild Geranium 3. Trillium. (All were foraged either after the bloom cycle or off plants with more than one leaf. Yes, Mayapples often have only ONE leaf! From plant to print… I picked these Wood Anemones last month when we visited wales. They carpeted the woodland floor, a magical site. Yesterday in the studio, I got them out of the press and decided to print with them. I mixed up a brown / beige shade, and spent the morning experimenting. Mostly A4, it seems to be my go to size.. "What is something you have always wanted to try but have never gotten around to doing?" It took me some time to come up with my answer because I've been doing a pretty good job of doing the things I've always wanted to do. Yay, Sarah! But, one thing I have wanted to do for several years now is walk the Mackinac Bridge. Every year they close it down for a few hours and hundreds, if not thousands, of people get to walk across the bridge. I am not quite sure what it is about this event that draws me, but I want to do it someday. I thought it might be this year, and it still could, but it's not that likely at this point. How about you? 🐟2024 Workshop Class🐟 Dwight Hwang's Traditional Gyotaku with Sumi Ink . Gyotaku was originally done with sumi, which is calligraphy ink made from compressed pine soot ground with water, and washi which simply translates as ‘Japanese paper’. We’ll be restricting ourselves to only using what was used centuries before to have a better understanding of how this folk art originated. Students will be working in pairs, so bring your smiles and your patience! . @dwighthwang_gyotaku creates classical Japanese gyotaku art and European nature printing. Whether his subject is a fish, plants, birds, or even a person, he pushes not only the art but himself to bring awe, memories, and quiet contemplation to viewers worldwide. The theme for this exhibition is “Holiday” and I’ve chosen three pieces inspired by my travels. My prints have layered meanings, inspired both by landscapes and my own life, so they become quite dreamlike and sometimes very different to the original view, but nature is always the starting point for me. 1.
