This one really delighted me - Grape Hyacinth (Muscari armeniacum) yields the most delicate blue that shifted to an almost sea green color with iron. This was something I was sure would give disappointing color. I was so wrong. The flowers were gathered by my kids and their friends from my yard and the blooms stripped from the stems. This was also on muslin and BFL combed top with a 15% alum mordant. Une photo avant/après des derniers écheveaux de laine chinée. Ces écheveaux demandent énormément de travail. Pour le jaune, vert et bleu à droite, j'en compté 60 noeuds pour 2 écheveaux (20 triple nœuds en deux fois) par exemple. Il ne faut pas moins de trois procédures de teinture sur 3-4 jours pour ces teintes! Avec de la gaude de la microferme des Lilas et de l'indigo en fermentation sur laine mérinos d'Arles. Précieux... ☺️ A before/after photo of the last skeins of mottled wool. These skeins require a lot of work. For the yellow, green and blue on the right, for example, I counted 60 knots for 2 skeins together (20 triple knots in two batches) and no fewer than three dyeing procedures over 3-4 days for these colors! With weld from the microferme des Lilas and indigo in a fermentation vat on Arles merino wool. Efter över 2,5 km garnlängd och 1,1 kg växtfärgat garn, fem veckors stickande, fick jag en rejäl sticknings relaterad abstinens 🧶Igår kväll stickade jag sista avmaskningsvarvet. Började med 3 maskor andra veckan i januari och slutade vid 700 maskor på 150 cm-s rundstickor. Alla garnändor sydde jag in varandra från början, då var bara två garnändor att sy in i slutet. Storleken blev 130 cm lång och ca 3 m bredd. Nu har jag ångat försiktigt och gnuggat i snön, behandlat med ullvädringsprogrammet i torktumlare. Sjalen är varm och skön och alla i huset vill använda den 😌 Jag försökte räkna lite: om jag tar det billigaste alternativet: garnkostnad 50 kr/100g , materialkostnad totalt 1100 kr. Arbetskostnad vid minimum timlön 140 kr; sticktid ca 100 timmar. Om en genomsnitt växtfärgningstid för ett färgbad är ca 3 timmar(ordna garnhärvor, beta, samla växtmaterialet, koka upp färgbadet, färga garnet, efterbehandling, nysta garnet...) och jag hade över 90 olika färgnyanser i sjalen, då är färgningstid ca 300 timmar. Totalsumman blev över 53 000 kr; att odla de fägväxterna, kunskap och design är fortfarande inte inräknad. Nej jag säljer inte mitt hantverk, men får frågor ibland om jag gör det. Det finns inte många som är redo att betala detta. En annan sak får jag förklara här med; hur hinner jag: Stockholms Lokal Traffik tog bort busslinjen jag brukade ta till jobbet; nu är min daglig restid 3 timmar ( #stockholmslokaltrafik 😵💫, med bilen skulle det ca 40 min fram och tillbaka ), så det blir mycket sticktimmar där redan... lite hemma efter jobbet och på rasterna på jobbet... men jag har inte heller lagt min styrketräning på is 💪Sammanfattningsvis kan jag säga att min januari har varit färgglad, varje stickad varv har gett mig glädje. Day 5 of #FiberuaryChallenge is Monday Motivation! Currently, we are experiencing unseasonably warm temperatures here in the Midwest. The best place I have to scour and dye our wool is outside. So today, I was motivated to get the dye pots going and take advantage of this rare February opportunity. I have decided to move to natural dyeing, and it’s a labor of love.
