I need to document all the amazing food I had this trip to Tokyo, especially when it was 90% solo 🤤😛 2-4: @ginzakappouukai for the beef omakase lunch (~SGD140, so worth it!) The beef was so good and the doriyaki is the bezzz I’ve ever had. The place was filled with locals and you know it got to be good 😛 I dined for 2.5 hours, deposit required to make a reservation. 📍Ginza Kappou Ukai Nikusho (Ginza) 5: #katsudonyazuicho for super delicious katsudon. Only one dish there and you can choose s/m/l rice for ~SGD15. Add extra egg for 100 yen too. Cash only and no reservations. When I reached at 615pm, I was initially rejected as it was full (he had a list! I think ppl went earlier to leave their names) but I told him I was dining solo & he allowed me in 😭🥹 📍Katsudon-ya Zuicho (Shibuya) 6: @tonkatsujp for crispy and juicy tonkatsu! Chanced upon this when we were googling for tonkatsu ard omotesando! Reached at 645pm and got the last 2 seats for an outdoor 730pm (lucky us!). Weather was cooling so it was perfect. Had 2 ribeyes to share but we shld have done 1 ribeye + 1 loin cos it was a bit too fatty after a while! But def delicious & the shop is so cute 😛 ~SGD50 each including a cup of sake 📍Tonkatsu.jp (Omotesando) 7-8: @ningyocho_imahan_official for darn good beef sukiyaki! Tried to reserve online but they only allowed for min 2 for reservations so I called them & thankfully I managed to get for 1 pax the next day. They’ve quite a few outlets in Tokyo. 3 huge slices of beef and they were soo good!! She cooked all the meat & vegs for me & I wiped them all out! At the end, she cooked scrambled eggs to go w the rice too 🤤 ~SGD90 for the high quality beef set. 📍Ningyocho Imahan (Nihonbashi) 9-10: @savoytomatotocheese for the best tuna pizza I’ve had in my life! [ HONGKONG ] CHEUNG HING KEE • 5/5 Wanchai / TST / Happy Valley / Kennedy Town / Central Not on the Michelin guide without reason— the pan fried xiao long baos, otherwise known as sheng jian bao (生煎包）are some of the best I’ve tried. The skin has a perfectly crunchy pan fried bottom crust with a slight buttery texture. The top of the buns are sprinkled with water, steaming it and creating an interesting contrast to the crunchy bottom skin. Inside the dumpling is delicious tender pork and the main highlight— the flavourful juice, absolute perfection. The soup broth is piping hot, filled with so much umami, with slight hints of seafood flavour and so comforting on a cold rainy morning. To eat, simply nibble and create a little hole in the skin, drain the soup onto a spoon and drink the soup before eating the rest. The turnip soup is also really good! Highly recommend CHK, it’s a must try!

[ HONGKONG ] SHARI SHARI KAKIGORI HOUSE • 5/5 Causeway Bay / Central / Mongkok / TST One of my favourite dessert spots in HK, their kakigori is so fresh and delicious! I love their fluffy shaved ice, and the Matcha Mochi one is amazing. It’s a little sweet with the caramel sauce but you can still taste the bitterness of the matcha. As you dig into the dessert, you’ll find some cookie bits, and the extra crunch is superb. Flavour is 10/10! Another flavour I’ve tried is the Earl Grey Mochi, which had some surprising pudding at the bottom! The shaved ice is so so fluffy and smooth, it feels like freshly fallen snow that just melts away in your mouth.. 🥹 they’ve also added some mochi balls on top, bearing a similar texture to dango with a good mouthfeel. I love their warabimochi too, it’s not too sweet and it was chewy with just the right consistency and just the right amount of kinako. Absolutely recommend this spot, Shari Shari is a must visit! It gets a bit crowded in the evenings at the CWB branch (especially since the place isn’t big) but the wait is never too long, and the kakigori is so delicious it feels like a reward after queuing 🫢

If you’re unsure of what to get, the sourdough egg tarts are a must try, and the donuts are pretty good too. The sourdough egg tarts are fantastic, with a creamy smooth custardy filling bound to satisfy with the perfect sweetness and egginess. The delicate croissant-like crust definitely carried a different texture compared to the traditional egg tart— it was flaky and buttery, yet crunchy at the same time. Their sourdough egg tarts have everything you’d wish for in an egg tart, and I daresay they have one of the best (if not the best) egg tarts in town..! The size of one is just perfect too👌 I’ve also tried their Matcha Azuki Red Bean donut, which was delicious! Perfected with kinako powder, it was fluffy soft and had subtly sweet matcha and red bean filling. Definitely recommend visiting the Causeway Bay branch in the morning, it’s always pretty quiet and barely a line! The one at Central seems to always have a long queue. [HONGKONG] LITTLE BAO DINER • 5/5 SoHo / Causeway Bay My new favourite burger spot. If you haven’t visited Little Bao this is your sign to GO! Replacing the traditional American burger bun with a Chinese steamed bao, their burgers are an excellent execution of a Chinese twist on a western classic. And it’s so genius! The steamed buns are so soft, dense and fluffy, they’d be marvellous even on their own. They’re also a little buttery and fried on the bottom, which adds some interesting texture. I fell in love with their Fried Chicken Bao, the fried chicken was so freaking good. Super crunchy and super duper duper juicy without feeling greasy. Complimented perfectly with pickled veggies, coleslaw, and finished off with their sensational szechuan peppercorn mayo and chiangkiang black vinegar glaze, oh it was absolutely phenomenal. 💯💯💯💯 the pickled veggies helped with adding acidity and all the flavours (saltiness, sweetness, sourness, spice) worked magically together and I savoured every last bite. The szechuan mayo added a tiny kick of spice but it’s definitely not that pronounced so even if you can’t take spice you can definitely tolerate this. I love their fried chicken bao so much and will definitely be back. I have also tried the fish bao which was an upscaled fusion rendition of your classic fillet o fish and while it was pretty good, I loved the fried chicken more! The size is just perfect to leave a little room for their appetizers (which by the way was amazing too!) We got the Truffle Fries to try, and while it sounds like a simple side it was definitely a complex variety of flavours! Ingredients were perfectly engineered with sweet pickled daikon and braised shiitake tempeh (and you could definitely taste the tempeh!!) on truffle mayo fries— this is definitely one of the best of its kind. Highly recommend, this was a crowd favourite. The space is bright and energetic in a cozy corner of Causeway Bay and the service is tip top. 🔝 Overall an amazing fusion joint you must visit in Hongkong!!!
