I am feeling so PROUD of our @aigaasheville Design Weekend team! 🧡 The weekend was a blast and a success. Event planning is very much not my background. I even recall saying (very awkwardly) at our first committee meeting, “alright everyone, I’ve never co-coordinated a 3-day event before, but we’re gonna figure it out.” — And we did! During open discussion yesterday, someone asked John and I how our skills as designers translated to coordinating the event. I felt a little lost on how to answer in the moment, because the past 6 months of planning have been a blur and I’ve truthfully felt out of my element. But after taking some time to reflect on it, I know exactly what the answer is: When I work one-on-one with clients, it is so incredibly important to me that they have a positive experience. Every single detail of my process is thought-out and intentional: clear communication, check-in emails, clear instructions, transparent process, having a solid plan behind the scenes, scheduling & timelines, making people feel welcome, expressing gratitude. And mostly, I want them to receive value from our collaboration. While planning a 3-day event with 20 speakers, 35 sponsors, concurrent programming, community partners, etc. might seem like a big diversion, the truth is that all of those same considerations were so important. The difference: 100+ attendees were our client. The ability to think through every single touchpoint of the audience’s experience, and be intentional about the value that they would receive, was key. That said, truthfully I’m beyond grateful for our Vice President @hornsbycreative, who brought an *actual* background in event planning, as well as amazing leadership & delegation skills to the collaboration. I learned so much from John this year, and couldn’t have asked for a better partner to co-coordinate with, or lead our chapter with all year. -continued in comment ⬇️-
