And so concludes our intercontinental cookie course through Asia and Pacific islands. And our final stops takes us through Southeast Asia where one particular ingredient is very well known and loved. Pandan. Pandan is a tropical plant prized for its long, blade-like leaves. It’s popular in many Sri Lankan, Thai, and other South Asian dishes. The leaves have a unique grassy, sweet aroma, and has been compared to vanilla. It also creates an absolutely stunning vibrant green color to any dish. Our last AAPI cookie…Coconut Pandan. Our buttery vanilla cookie elevated with pandan and shredded coconut, creamy white chocolate chips for balance, topped with toasty, sweet coconut flakes for more coconut kick and crunch. A unique and delicious experience for the eyes and tastebuds. We are down to our last two AAPI cookies. And our ventures take us back to the Middle East, where spices like cardamom are queen. With India being the world’s largest consumer of cardamom, using 95% of the cardamom it produces domestically. And I think cardamom has rapidly become one of MY favorite spices of all time. That said…we present our Apricot Cardamom Pistachio cookie. Orange blossom soaked apricots, kissed with cardamom and crushed pink pepper corns, orange zest and a drizzle of olive oil give it a distinctive middle eastern kaleidoscope of flavors that pair beautifully. We embark, once again, on our AAPI journey over the pacific to the Hawaiian islands. With its many cultural influences, Japan being one of them. Also the closes neighboring country. Nassau Museum Of Art! The @nassaumuseum is one of my favorite places on Long Island. No matter the season the mile long sculpture park is a hit. With endless things to look at it is the perfect place for a family visit. It’s also the perfect spot to meet up with friends for some socializing and exercise. Add in the great Gilded Age mansion turned museum and it’s just a great day. Their current exhibit - Urban Art Evolution - curated by Christopher Pusey - was super fun, colorful, and great for kids. I love graffiti and this exhibit was all about the evolution of graffiti into elevated (and expensive!) contemporary art. It includes Keith Haring going from a subway sneaky-peet chalk hoodlum to the uber famous Pop Shop owner and sought out artist. It also has Basquiats, the works of Rodney Alan Greenblat, Eric Haze, Kenny Scharf, Mark Kostabi, Angel “LA2” Ortiz, the OG Fab Five Freddy Fred Brathwaite, and an autographed refrigerator. Plus it chronicles the story of how the East Village was the height of cool before the starving artists were kicked out by the yuppies (humming the Rent soundtrack as you meandered was optional but encouraged). Colors, colors everywhere. Such a fun exhibit. Plus dinosaurs in party hats. I just love it there. The Urban Art Evolution exhibit runs through July 7, 2024. 📍Support the arts! Tiny Songbirds is an educational and fun live music experience for babies, toddlers, kids, and the adults who love them! All Tiny Songbirds classes are taught by licensed and experienced music educators who craft quality original lesson plans to engage young children in the music making process! Our classes are jam packed with instrument experimentation, intentional and guided movement and dance, classic and new children’s music, sung storytime, scarf and ribbon play and so, so much more!
