I admit, this is my absolute favorite out of all of my Gesneriads. This is my Nematanthus "Golden West." This is actually my second attempt to grow this beauty. Both times, I was fortunate enough to find small plugs. The first time I purchased them the soil mix they were in was terrible and I lost them before I could repot them together. The second time, I repotted them right away and babied them until they established. They were then repotted in its current pot and have been living happily ever since. I've not seen this particular Nematanthus since, or anywhere else for that matter. I'm very surprised I don't hear about it more as the variegation is spectacular. The leaves are thicker, reminiscent of a peperomia. The leaf colors vary and include: dark green, medium green, silver, & a creamy off-white. They're also very shiny and the edges turn pink with more light exposure. If you ever stumble across one of these, I highly recommend it for the foliage alone! Det fascinerende med denne er fargene på bladene 💚🩷 neongrønne med flekker/prikker av mørkegrønn. De nyeste bladene har rosaskjær. Late to the party as per! But here’s the new PINK (warm beige™) ceiling above the living room corner jungle, complete with disco dots! Yeah I know we’ve all seen this view many times on my grid, but I love it and it brings me joy so I’m doing it! Just you try and stop me 😂. I love the combo of it with the green walls, and the dots show up nicely on the ceiling. I’m kind of looking forward to how the colour’s going to change with the light of the seasons. Exciting! On another note, currently tapping this out still laid in bed. Went out last night to Tailors- it’s a working tailor shop in Leeds by day that turns in a speakeasy gin bar at night- very nice vibes and the guy behind the bar had an excellent (unironic?) mullet- very Kevin Keegan 😂 (I’m clearly a northern 90s kid haha). It was cool, although I feel like advertising yourself as a speakeasy kind of goes against the point of it 😂. Anyways, whilst we were there there was a guy stood twiddling his ‘tache and shuffling cards for ages (spit dab of Duke Silver out of Parks & Rec) but he eventually came over as he was their ‘in house magician’ and we were majorly sceptical but honestly- the things he did with those cards last night blew all our minds and I think he might have made a deal with the devil 😂. This plant comes from a terrarium. As you can see, it has massive thrips damage. In the terrarium there is a permanent humidity of over 70% and yet the thrips feel comfortable. It's annoying, unsightly and makes you a bit angry because you put a lot of effort into the small biotopes. Because of the animals in the terrarium, I can't use chemicals. That's why I use neem oil. With moderate success.
