We had the best 4 nights at Wauraltee Beach. Mid April, and the weather was just perfect. No wind and the sunsets were just epic. Troy caught a few king George whiting and we topped up the freezer with some more squid. We had a perfect glass off afternoon so the boys decided to brave the freezing water to catch some blue swimmer crabs. Broke a rear shock mount 50 miles from a paved road. AAA wouldn't come out here, deep in the desert BUT along a very good county maintained dirt road. So, I had to limp it out to the paved road at 5-10mph... That was a tediously long drive. Fyi, it looks like I'm on a dirt road in the first pic with the tow truck but that's a large dirt pull off alongside the paved road. From there, I had it towed to town where I had a shop weld the bracket back on. Whew. Back on the road, and the weld has held up for 2 months now. Buster is back! AAA members should know, they won't drive down ANY dirt road, no matter how good it is. LAME!! Their policy is, apparently, to let you rot out in the desert instead. This "no dirt roads" policy renders AAA roadside assistance pretty much useless in rural areas. Rapid Bay - still one of our favourite places. 10 nights was not enough, but when you can't fit anymore, squid in the freezer, it's time to go. This is our second time here, but this time, we have a boat. What a game changer. We just loved fishing multiple times a day and being able to park the boat out the front of the caravan. Also, the other families we met here made it so much better. Reading all the names of miners who have died mining in Broken Hill was sobering stuff. Over 800 men have perished. Some of the deaths sounded horrible. Some decades were worse than others. The depth of the mines was amazing not sure I would be venturing that far down! Profit over safety? Maybe. Yes, it was cold that morning when we crossed the border into NSW. On our way to Broken Hill a place I last passed through back in early 1984 when mates of mine would challenge how fast we could drive to Yeppoon from Adelaide. Don’t ask me why we did it, pretty silly really. Anyway, a good mate of mine and myself did it in 28 hours but a couple of other friends did it in 24. Our first night was camped at the almost ghost town of Olary SA. What amazed us was it looked like people just got up and all left at once. Maybe 60 years ago? The advent of the diesel locomotive was the death of the town I believe. The lack of any graffiti was so refreshing to see. We have been traveling Australia for 3 years🍻🥳 It's one of the most challenging but rewarding decisions we have ever made. You can't put a price on the things we have experienced and the valuable time we have spent as a family. We are always getting asked how we can afford to keep going. We didn't do a budget or keep track of our spending. We want to enjoy our time together, and when the money starts getting low, we find jobs to top up the account again. We have found that traveling for a couple of months and then stopping for a couple of months was the best way to keep our dream alive. We have both picked up work in caravan parks, which has worked out perfectly as we are able to stay longer and really explore those places. Cutting down costs on those big ticket items like camp ground fees, fuel, and groceries has been a learning curve, but we have come up with a couple of ways to save a few dollars. Caravan park fees can add up very quickly, so we use the @wikicamps app to find free and low-cost camps. We still like caravan parks and camp grounds but try to choose ones that have deals going like free nights or free activities for the kids. Another major expense is fuel, and finding cheap fuel is very important to us, especially with a 270L tank, so we use the Petrol Spy App. The dreaded grocery shop is all about planning, so we try to stock up in big towns so we don’t have to spend extra money at expensive convenience stores. Another huge cost for us over the 3 years has been our change in setup. We have had 3 different cars and 2 caravans. With 1 car and 1 caravan written off in remote locations. But we have learned some valuable life lessons, and we know we can get through anything as a family. So what are we up to now. Well, we have just finished a work stint at the beautiful Lake St Clair NSW. We headed to Melbourne to meet the Auswide Caravan team and watch the Storm play. We are now heading towards SA to enjoy some fishing in our new tinny. The goal for this year is to head up to the Kimberleys and do the Gibb River Road. Who knows where we will end up after that. We don't like to make too many plans. We will end up where we are meant to be.

There's always some kind of reward for @mel_svedo when I make her do these scary heights things. This time after our tree top walk we went back to camp at dockets mill winery and cheese farmhouse and Mel was treated to "the plank". We selected 4 wines and the team at duckets mill paired them with some of their home made cheese. And yes this was at our camp, so after the wine it was just a 30-second walk back to our van. How good is that. Duckets mill is a hipcamp, they only have 4 spots for campers and its often full. Did you know, @mel_svedo absolute favourite bird is the black cockatoo. We were exploring near Walpole WA and a random little point of interest came up for a place called "dinosaur world". We didn't have high expectations but some very positive wiki reviews made us stop in for a look. We were actually blown away with how cool this place was, with very cool dinosaur animationics and a bunch of friendly birds to hang out with. Bluff knoll. The tallest peak in the South West of WA. This one was a real challenge for the svedo fam, it just looks so dam intimidating from the bottom. It was around 3 km of constant uphill climb and if I'm being honest, there were moments when i felt like giving up and turning back. The Granite Skywalk Scaling new heights and conquering fears. It took a pretty gruelling 2km of stairs to get to the start of the granite skywalk and then a bit of courage to get mel who is scared of heights up to the top. Perth > Sydney ! Woof. Over 41 hours of driving. This is the most consecutive driving we’ve done! We’ve had so many wild experiences and have been to so many interesting places. I’m forever grateful that we’re able to do this. My brain pathways have spaghetti’d and realigned in the best way. We were surprised with an exclusive tour of the Sydney opera house. We got to see the green room, the places closed to the general public and we got to walk on stage too!! I’m so grateful for this experience! (Thanks to Neil being so well connected🤌🏼) We explored the city and the Botanical Garden. As well as walking along the Sydney harbour bridge for a cool view of the city!
