And this time our guide - Messie - took us a little further up the river and we got to this picturesque spot. Food for the eye, isn’t it?! A few kilometers away from Porto Novo - up north - the Black River leads to Vagnon embankment in a peaceful and quiet ride - as engines boats are not allowed on the river. The heaven-like atmosphere can only lead to an inner peace and quiet while admiring the perfectly ordered nature. The Garden of Plants and Nature, Porto Novo, Benin. 🇧🇯 - - - The Porto-Novo Plants and Nature Garden (JPN), formerly called the Sacred Forest of the Kingdom of Porto-Novo, was created before 1895, probably in the 17th century. A contemporary sacred forest, it is placed under the authority of the kingdom of Hogbonu. Settlement of disputes between citizens and the execution of sentences of death row inmates used to take place there, under the direction of the King's Minister in charge of judicial affairs. The forest also sheltered the temples of the native divinities and the populations came there to make prayers and libations. Located in the heart of the administrative district, between the headquarters of the National Assembly and the Departmental Hospital of Ouémé, the Jardin des Plantes et de la Nature of Porto-Novo is a green space in the city. Today it is an educational space, described as the green lung of the capital city. And we found this jewel while exploring.
