Color changing mirror!?🪞 I forgot this has been in the making for months and I gradually found time to work on it and spray it when it was nice outside. Those days have been far and few between lately…BUT it’s done now 💀🎨🖤🪞🫶🏼 It’s color shifting spray paint (turquoise waters) on a black background coat. It goes from blue to green to purple depending on where the light source is coming from AND it’s glittery, so naturally I’m obsessed with it!!! Be prepared for a… …photo dump of all the things I’ve been tirelessly working on after I get off work every day. I wanted to go add all of these things to my wall at @greatlakesantiquesboutique today, but I can’t. My car needs to be fixed and after talking to several mechanics today, it’s not even safe to drive…and I shouldn’t have been driving it the past few days 😳 So…I am going to continue to make things and work and be in my own little space at home with my animals and I can drink because after this week…I deserve a few in my octopus glass (which I also made) 🐙 Needless to say, everything I post will be for sale, I’ll just have to sell it from here until I can afford to get my car fixed and go put the stuff up. I’m trying to keep my head above water, but I feel like it’s being constantly pushed down by so many things out of my control… My resilience and strength has been tested every single day for the past 3 years and counting. It’s done… I spent the last 3 days working my normal morning job and then working on my art and taking care of my animals in between it all. I managed to transport and re-hang as much art as I could on the wall space I was given yesterday. My new art and some of my older stuff is now on the wall behind the counter at the @greatlakesantiquesboutique store. It’s not a very big space, but after 2 and a half hours of doing my best to use the space without overcrowding, attempting to organize, and price it all…it’s done. I’m going to leave it alone and see what happens with the exposure it will have here. The things I will be putting on display in that store will all be one of kind…I don’t do repeats. If you get something of mine, you will be the only person who has it. (With the exception of some of the smaller things like earrings, they’re all handmade, but very similar). Everything you will see me put out is upcycled, repurposed, broken down, built up, and/or recreated. That’s how I do my art and I will always do it that way. I never buy anything new. I’m on the wait list for a booth…a larger space where I can put all the furniture, end tables, dressers, bikes, and large scale paintings I have made that I have never had a place to display in real life. I’m excited for that!!! But for now, I’m exhausted, and going to spend the rest of my weekend recovering and of course making more art because it’s something I can’t live without. 🪼 🖤🎨 I’m not done yet, but it’s been a while since I’ve posted any updates on this bad boy 💀 I’m usually the perfectionist, who sketches things out before I ever touch the paint to the canvas, and who feels safer in creating that way because I know what it’s going to look like, or have a pretty good idea. But not this time. This time it was paint only. I needed a distraction from the chaos of my life and this jellyfish was that for me. It was something new, something I’ve never painted or drawn before, and I just went with it. #done The second thing I finished was the giant dog bone. The bone is an actual rubber dog mat that's normally placed under the food and water bowls...I have a dog that eats like a pig, slobbers, chomps, and chugs water like a psycho. 🐱🐠🐙🦑🎨 This is a perfect example of my repurposed art. The orange thingy was a rubber cat food dish. I used a drill to puncture holes in it so I could sew it onto the canvas board. Then painted tentacles on it, added sea/ocean charms that were jewelry pieces, made more holes to add string for a more 3D feel, and of course glitterized the whole thing. Art Wall: For the next two months. Life’s been super hard lately…or maybe being an artist is just really hard. I don’t know where the line between the two is drawn anymore. My depression and anxiety have sunk their claws so deep inside of me that I can’t tell which parts are me and which parts are them some days. My art helps me detach from that mess and that pain, which is why I need to create, need to color, and need to paint. For me, it’s a form of breathing. But I do know that despite everything I have going on, I still got some of the paintings finished, still got some of the art I wanted up on the wall, still made the effort to just show up when all I’ve wanted to do lately is curl up into a ball, cuddle my animals, and stay in bed until it’s warm and sunny outside again. I SHOWED UP…I put clothes on (if sweatpants covered in paint and a hoodie count as clothes), put the art in my car, drove to the brewery, and put everything up by myself. No help, no power tools, and no idea how I was going to get that Buddha painting up there because it is as big as I am!! But I did it. I found a way and used the tools I did have to make it work. I am a creative…AND a woman. #wednesdaymood I have barely slept the last two days, so it’s a coffee infused day for us. Hykkup is ‘helping’ me re-paint/design this kitchen. It’s almost done. The weather is disgusting still…ice and rain and fog and snow all mixed together throughout the day with NO sunshine. I need warmth and to be able to be outside and exist without walls, or enclosed areas. So until then, it’s one day at a time…sometimes one hour at a time on the really hard days. Today might be one of those really hard days, but I am refusing to let depression win without putting up a g-dang fight.
