Today: Jo Delahaut (1911-1992) Jo Delahaut is one of the key figures of geometric abstraction in Belgium. Within the group of La Jeune Peinture Belge he was the only representative of abstract art. In 1946 he became a member of Réalités Nouvelles in Paris. Under the influence of the work of Auguste Herbin, he evolved more and more towards geometric abstraction. In 1952 he founded Art Abstrait together with Pol Bury, Jean Milo, Georges Collignon and Albert Saverys . #ARTISTLIFE - QUI EST MIG QUINET ? ❤️🔥🤓👇 1906 : Mig Quinet naît le 3 juin 1906 à Ransart (Charleroi) et s’installe à Bruxelles à l’âge de 4 ans. Formée au dessin à l’Académie des Beaux-Arts de Bruxelles, elle aborde la peinture en autodidacte. Quinet s’intéresse à ses débuts aux mouvements modernistes des années 1920. 1936-1949 : Dès 1936 et régulièrement jusqu’en 1949, elle expose individuellement son œuvre figurative à la galerie Manteau à Bruxelles. Malgré son statut de femme qui la maintient dans l’ombre, la critique salue l’audace de sa palette, alors inspirée du fauvisme. Quinet participe ensuite au salon Apport et fonde avec d’autres artistes en août 1945 le mouvement émancipateur d’après-guerre de la Jeune Peinture belge. Elle participera à toutes les expositions du groupe, en Belgique et à l’étranger. Quinet s’engage alors ouvertement en faveur d’une peinture abstraite qui dévoile une poésie issue de la réalité. 1979 : Le talent de dessinatrice de Mig Quinet est enfin dévoilé lors d’une exposition à la galerie Armorial à Bruxelles. 1953-1967 : De 1953 à 1967, le Palais des Beaux-Arts de Bruxelles organise au total six expositions de Mig Quinet, en la présentant comme l’artiste qui a profondément marqué la Jeune Peinture belge. 2001 : Décès de Mig Quinet. Ze zette zich in voor een abstracte schilderkunst die haar poëtische visie op de realiteit vertaalt. Tussen 1953 en 1967 wijdde het Paleis voor Schone Kunsten in Brussel 6 tentoonstellingen aan haar. Met veel originaliteit en uitbundige creativiteit doorliep ze het kubisme, het fauvisme, de geometrische en lyrische abstractie en de Pop Art. The family moved to Antwerp in 1922. He studied at the Antwerp Fine Arts Academy from 1934 to 1939. In 1943 Robert Giron invited Mendelson and fellow artists Rudolf Meerbergen and Jan Cox to exhibit at the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels. Mendelson excelled in painting portraits and metaphysical still lifes reminiscent of the "magical realism" of Giorgio de Chirico. The same year Mendelson was arrested and jailed by the germans for several months. After his liberation with the help of his friend Jan Cox, Mendelson became a founding member in 1945 of the avant-garde group "Jeune Peinture Belge" - "Young Belgian Painters" promoted by Robert Delevoy, director of Galerie Apollo and by art mecenas René Lust. Up to 1948 the JPB managede to organize exhibitions in Brussels, Paris, The Hague, Stockholm, Zurich, Milan, Oxford and even in Cairo and Alexandria ! Mendelson subsequently exhibited at the Venice Biennial in 1948 and 1956, the São Paulo Biennial in 1951 and the Carnegie Institute in Pittsburgh in 1952. He particpated at the Younger European Painters: A Selection (1953–54) at the Guggenheim Museum. During the 1950's Mendelson’s work became increasingly abstract. In the early 1960's he experimented with surface variations and matierism - Mendelson preferred the term "relief paintings" -, the method of including materials such as sand, mud, or cement into thick impasto and applying it to the canvas, a technique also used by Jean Dubuffet and Antoni Tàpies. In 2000 a tribute exhibition was held at Group 2 Gallery on the occasion of his 85th birthday. Mendelson passed away in Brussels in 2013 at the age of 97.

/ Didier Devillez a le plaisir de vous convier au vernissage de l’exposition Paul Schrobiltgen (1923-1980) Œuvres sur papier (huiles & multiples) le samedi 4 juin 2022 de 16 à 19h exposition du 10 juin au 2 juillet 2022 ouvert les jeudi, vendredi et samedi de 14 à 18h30 et sur rendez-vous Paul Schrobiltgen, à mi-chemin de Nicolas de Staël et de Serge Poliakoff – ses dieux –, prêche une mosaïque sobre des formes, une géométrie douce, vacillant presque au contact de l’irradiante lumière intérieure, avec des grâces qui évoquent Paul Klee. On en verra ici quelques-uns des meilleurs exemples. Ses peintures à l’huile sur carton, aux architectures évanescentes, comme étouffées par le chiffon qui estompe, ont gardé leur jeunesse grâce à ce minimalisme sensible. La soie brumeuse des valeurs blondes, dorées, ombrées, parfois serties d’un cabochon ou d’un rais de couleur vive, profile la vie sur le terrain du rêve. Chaque peinture est comme un souffle, un murmure où la ligne qui définit le plan progresse à pas de loups dans le champ coloré. Réalisées aux derniers moments de sa vie, 1978-1979, au moment où la couleur parfois se fait plus incisive et plus cristalline, la plupart de ces pièces sont de celles, silencieuses, généreuses, avec lesquelles on voudrait vivre. Le parcours de Paul Schrobiltgen, bien qu’il n’appartint à aucun cercle ni mouvement, Jeune Peinture ou autre, fut celui, en plus discret, des peintres belges de l’après-guerre, Gaston Bertrand, Van Lint, Jo Delahaut. Comme eux, il glissa d’un certain type de figuration épurée à une abstraction plus franche, avant d’arriver à ces pages fines de « musique de chambre ». Werk van JEAN MILO (1906-1993) bij MaisonJules Gent in de juniveiling. Milo schilderde in eerste instantie impressionistisch maar maakte reeds in 1948 zijn eerste non-figuratieve doek. In 1946 richt hij La Jeune Peinture Belge op. Dit grote werk dateert van 1953.
