I created this design to have the feel of an old embroidery sampler of sorts. Continuing on the William Morris and Art and Crafts movement of mid to late 1800s. Also combining several of the recent prompts from @jehane_ltd with inclusion of William Morris country home, Kelmscott Manor, where his children were raised, the idea of the strawberry thief that was inspired by the gardens at this residence. The embroidery design is also a nod to May Morris, his daughter, who created embroidery patterns. Oh, and if you got this far.. Working on my version of the “The Strawberry thief” for #jehanesgoldenthread2024 I also grew up surrounded by #WilliamMorris patterns in our family home, on curtains and wallpaper. They very much remind me of my childhood. Now the Strawberry Thief is hanging in my bathroom so I get to look at it everyday. 🍓

Watching the squirrels in my yard and neighborhood, I was inspired to make the squirrels my strawberry thieves. One of the mischievous squirrels admiring his strawberry reminds me of Gollum holding onto the ring (in Lord of the Rings.) "My precioussss". The other squirrel looks like he might be caught red-pawed! This is also the first time I tried to make my entire illustration digitally in photoshop. Strawberry Thief: this week’s prompt from @jehane_ltd Golden Thread -Heritage Garden I’ve worked entirely on Procreate for this piece as I simply don’t have time to paint: I’ve got just weeks left to finish a secret wholesale order which is very exciting and I can’t wait to share. Generally I much prefer putting paint to paper but digital drawing allows you to work later by layer and edit anything that doesn’t work.
