After touring Europe, the UK and the US in 2023 to test out their new songs, @lomoon are back with their new #album #iwishyouwaymorethanluck . The album starts with “Borrowed Hills” which sees @mattlomoon exploring his adolescent years in the lyrics. The song sets the #tone for the album as it blends Matt’s voice, Sam Stewart’s expert guitar play and Crisanta Baker’s synthwork in a style reminiscent of Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins. The theme of growing up continues in “Waiting a Lifetime“ and is picked up in “Water“, both equally energetic and likewise lyrically extensive as the first song. “Day Old News“ hinges on #americana and displays Matt’s fondness for musicians like #brucespringsteen and especially #thewarondrugs . The interlude “The Chapel” paves the way for “Honest” to close off the album contemplatively and shows Matt’s lyrcism at its peak. My personal highlight is “Connecticut“ with its vocally raw and emotional intro bursting into a tasteful #guitarriff . The lyrical foundation is visual and emotive. This song reminds me a lot of #talktalk . “When the Kids are Gone“ is another highlight for me. The drony beginning leads into a smooth, jazzy sound with Matt’s and Crisanta’s voices beautifully layered on top of each other. It showcases some #soundscapes similar to the first album, reminding me of #thebluenile with its #shoegaze textures. “Mary in the Woods” showcases similar soundscapes and influences like “When the Kids are Gone”, but is more immersive and lyrically expressive, making it another favourite of the album. “Evidence” is a guilty pleasure with its energetic and frenzy guitar play in the end. It is perfectly suited for this band which shines true when jamming together. This is why I strongly recommend seeing them live on #tour which starts in June in the US and moves to the UK and Europe in October and November. This album is a strong 8/10 for me and showcases the band's growing talent to create #immersive soundscapes in combination with a lyrically #cohesive theme.

As you know, I am a big fan of @lomoon since quite some time. The #concert @laboulenoire_ in Paris on the 25th of November was truly a mind-blowing experience. It proved why bands are just always better live than on tape. I was slightly nervous because I had already seen them before in The Hague @korzotheater on the 4th of November. They had to cut it short, and despite being in high spirits, there was not the same energy I had experienced from them before. I was relieved when they started with #raincoats , still one of my favourite songs of them. Sam Stewart demonstrated how he loves to bend the guitar and rip it. @mattlomoon executed every #vocals with perfection, raw and vulnerable in the beginning, playful and energetic in the end. Another highlight was #connecticut from the new album which I had previously only seen in some of their live videos. It starts off slowly with Matt telling the story about a father-son-relationship. He is as emotional as ever with his voice and the piano. The explosion comes suddenly blending Sam’s krautrock-esque guitarriffs with Crisanta Baker’s frenetic bassplay and @sterlinglaws crashing drums. Can’t wait to see how #iwishyouwaymorethanluck will be but this song already makes me excited. I also enjoyed the jazzy rendition of #thorns , a classic from their first album where especially Matt and Sam show hints of @bryanferry_roxymusic and @talktalk Second to that, #evidence has been on my mind since it came out and it rounds up the concert perfectly. This is mainly because, similar to Raincoats and Connecticut, it builds up softly only to explode into a driven guitar performance of Sam, Crisanta and Matt together. I love Lo Moon and this concert even more reinforced my passion for their #music . Their new #album is out April 5th, so check them out and give them the love they deserve. It was one of the best concerts I’ve been to and the eight hour tour on the bus was more than worth it. Points: 9.8, rank #1.
