27 November 2022 - Round 5 of the US Kids Spring Tour done and dusted yesterday and what a long day. Up at 3.30am and on the road at 4am for a 7am tee time was not my best day but managed to keep it together for a -1 under 35 and a solid win ready for the Tour Championship this Sunday at Royal Pines. Had a great round with Lucas and Duncan and then went to watch Cameron Smith take the win at the Australian PGA. What a great day. Purdis Heath, Ipswich… A day for a golftrip come up and I felt a journey away from surrounding london area was needed, so took wild pick of a few top 100 tracks and ended up here at the beautiful Purdis heath. There was a warm feeling around club, Great guys in the proshop and a James braid design ahead of us! The first has the common braid hand shake feel and gets you settled in nicely, all though not so much for our group who were pumped up and fired balls all over the place! Things get going from the second with a sloping fairway par 5. A pleasant 3rd hole short 3 before a tricky blind shooting hole on the 4th which has one of the most bizzare approach shots I’ve played! Not having much knowledge of the course I had no idea what was coming and as soon as we got on the 5th we all got a good feel of what was to come! 5-10th were really strong holes and prob best stretch for me although 12/13 were class! This heathland certainly trumps some of the better known Surrey tracks that I’ve played! Some players are less famous for their performances than for other things around the club. This is rather unfair on a player who made 50 appearances for the club but more of a reflection of Mariner’s greatness than anything negative on Peddelty. John was born in Bishop Auckland in April 1955 and joined Town in summer 1971 as an apprentice. Peddelty was capped by England at youth/u16s level but it was difficult to get game time with Hunter and Beattie the obvious first choices over that time. He played 16 games over three seasons between 1972 and 1975. The 1975/76 season was John’s career highpoint, he played 30 games and scored six goals including an absolute peach against the great Leeds side of the era. That goal, where Trevor Whymark headed the ball to him and from 20 yards and he controlled it on is thigh before striking it first time into the bottom corner of the Churchman’s net, was used in opening credits for Match of the Day the season after. However the following October Bobby Robson was looking down the sofa to find enough cash to tempt Paul Mariner to Portman Road, rather than West Ham or West Brom. Eventually Town found a club record £220,000 with striker Terry Austin and John going in the other direction. John was only 21 years of age and it felt a good move for him. Sadly the deal did not end well for Peddelty. He had already suffered a fractured skull whilst at Town and soon injured his head again which sadly ended his career. He was just 22 but happily forged a successful career with Suffolk police, working for them for almost 30 years. John was only the second Town player to be captain of Ipswich Golf Club (after John Elsworthy). John’s 50 appearances and 6 goals for Town will not make him a great at Portman Road, but he was a major factor in getting one of our greatest to the club and being on the MOTD credits is pretty cool too! #itfc #ipswichtown #pafc #IpswichGolfClub

Due to extreme weather Melissa and Leslie had to activate their plan B option for their big day - The Ipswich Golf Club and it turned out to be a spectacular afternoon. Kangaroos, misty rain, really green fairways, romantic photo opportunities, a unique ceremony specifically written to their story and King and Queen rings.
