🐝 Save the bees 🐝 Last week we looked up ways we can help save the bees. We already have an area in our garden that we do not mow, we have used our SeedBoms to try and grow some wildflowers but we wanted to know if there was anything else we could do. That's when we came across information on Bee Baths, I had never heard of a bee bath before. Have you heard of them??? Bees collect water for a variety of reasons: to dilute honey – bees use water to manage the consistency of honey and thin out honey that has crystallized, to help with digestion – just like us, bees need water to aid in their digestion, to keep the hive cool – these smart little creatures will add water to the hive and fan it with their wings, air-conditioning the space by cooling it down, and to feed the babies – the nurse bees that feed the larvae need plenty of water to create the right baby food (royal jelly). To make a bee bath all you need is a shallow dish, a plant pot, some stones and some fresh water. Now we have been getting the odd day of good weather I have been thinking about outdoor toys for Pickle. The problem I have is that I don't want plastic but we don't have any suitable base area in the garden. It's pretty much all grass and we are not allowed to alter it. Have you heard of May Day Cones? I was struggling to think of what to make for today's #MayDay prompt, other than the traditional May Pole, when I heard about this ( mostly American) tradition. Beep Beep We’ve been doing a bit of road safety play with our eldest as he is starting to properly get the idea of not crossing if he sees a moving car. We had great fun today stopping the cars so the animals could cross safely and, as with most of his play, this descended into the cars bringing all the animals some food. A fruity painting This afternoon Daph decided she wanted to do some painting. I wanted a low mess option that would be easy to supervise with little sis hanging around too. So we pulled out our paint sticks and holder from @clever_bugs Daph set to work right away painting a big round shape. "I made a big apple mummy" she told me. She added some little green leaves to the top as well. Then I prompted what other fruits could you draw? Then she added a set of blueberries, counting as she went to ensure there was ten. Then a strawberry, grapes, oranges, a banana, a raspberry and a blackberry. In the end she decided to add more blueberries so the page was all covered in fruit. Experimenting with different colours and textures, I stumbled on this gorgeous swamp/moss colour and just had to make a small world scene with it! This is the most detailed set up my little one has played with and she spent ages with it, looking at all the details and playing with the alligator ("turtle!") and rabbit ("bob bilby!" - iykyk). It was great to play "can you find..." too as so many little things were hidden for her to look for. For this I used the swamp mix for the centre, the usual blue rice (on Etsy), my new mud mix with bugs (Etsy TBC!) and the bee and flowers sensory base (on Etsy) . All other elements are from other kits or just general play things (even used a real succulent, can you spot it?) 🦦🦭 British wildlife 🦦🦭 Over the last few years, I have really enjoyed connecting more with nature, celebrating the wheel of the year and learning about the local-to-me plants and animals. I've taken Pixie on my wee journey, and we still have so much more to find out about. These lovely cards from @buttonandsquirt have beautiful illustrations of many animals from across the British Isles and are cleverly colour-coded to indicate where they can be found. On the back is information about each creature. Pixie has enjoyed matching the cards to our wooden toys and then reading the facts. We've both found out lots of new, fascinating things! How we played today - 8 months old I’ve been wanting to do this for ages because, much as I love the fun invitations to play and the gorgeous flatlays, so much of our play just isn’t that premeditated. I saw #howweplayedtoday somewhere on my feed and thought that was exactly what I wanted some of our posts to show. So here is a little play session with our youngest. He is pushing 5 teeth through (still… glacially slowly in fact) so everything is mouthed and bashed a lot. This @plantoys.official shape sorter was ticking all his boxes as was his @joguines_grapat little thing. He loves the colour on his @lankakade ladybird and also enjoys pushing it back and forth as he learns to crawl (only way he tolerates tummy time currently). The @bajowoodentoys ladybird was largely played with by me this time round but it’s so easy to push and spin it usually holds his attention for ages. I haven't done a Ghibli post in a while so when I saw the #radish prompt I thought why not be different and do the Radish Spirit from Spirited Away 🤪 I had just treated myself to some OkoNorm watercolours from @babipur to try ( never used watercolours before) so decided to use those. Babipur has some amazing art and craft items and I don't think they get mentioned enough. The OkoNorm glue, for example, is brilliant, we use it a lot in crafts. What a lovely morning we had at @intothewoodsforestschool- getting muddy and cuddling lambs! Campfire, marshmallows, lamb feeding and cuddling! You’re allowed to take your own carrots, apples, parsnips or cabbage to feed the deer too which both girls loved. Practically what I like about this place is they have proper toilets which makes life easier sometimes! Parking is also easy and it’s such a beautiful place to visit. We nipped over to the Ulverscroft tearooms afterwards and explored the charity shops and looked at the gorgeous views. Babipur is 17!!!! Babi had been so excited to turn 17, he had told Pete and Jolene months before what he wanted. He had found out that not only can he learn to drive but he can also learn to fly and get a pilots licence. He was hoping that with them knowing Graeme that they might be able to get him a go in an F35 but instead he got a hot air balloon over Snowdonia. No holds barred. Tried with a larger 🌈 rainbow. My toddler managed to drop his snack bowl right as I finished, before I could add any details. No one was hurt from this incident!
