I recently finished my first ever zine/book in collaboration with the staff at an NHS hospital, looking into the issues of patient abuse, NHS pay and the mental health struggles that come with being employed within the healthcare sector by documenting the reality but also the mundane side to this field of work. Here are some of the pages from the finished book. The title ‘Red tape’ is an idiom meaning ‘regulations or conformity to formal rules or standards which are claimed to be excessive or rigid.’ A term that has been used to describe the NHS on many occasions by media outlets. I had just finished 2 hours worth of children’s portraits in my garage and I was so cold my lips were purple. My hair was a mess and I didn’t put on makeup. I wasn’t wearing what I would have wanted to for portraits but I said screw it, and got my family out there for a few quick snaps before taking down my set up. We only got 2 decent photos out of it but I’m so glad we did it. Who cares if you’re not feeling your best or looking your best, just get in front of the camera Mamas! You won’t regret it. I’m on a break with my guys right now and wouldn’t have it any other way.
