Besides the usual zakat (alms), Haji Yusoff 'Tali Pinggang' (the owner of Gedung Kuning before it was compulsorily acquired by the government in 1999) allocated monthly funds to be given to poor widows or orphans. Annual funds are also allocated to Clyde Street Mosque (not in existence anymore) and Sultan Mosque, during the “fasting month for food for the poor”. We love having guests in the museum! 1. Halimah (also known as Noribah) is the eldest great-granddaughter of Haji Yusoff. She came with her granddaughter Sarah (6th generation). She said that the museum is testament to Haji Yusoff’s legacy so that the younger generation (like Sarah) will know their roots. We are happy to know that she is unlike some of her family members who are short-sighted and prefer to sell off properties than to preserve them. 2. Hidayah with her childhood friend Asmah. Meet the HYMM team: Hidayah Amin (also known as Cik Idah) is the Cambridge-educated lead curator of the museum. She is the great-granddaughter of Haji Yusoff with Hajah Aishah, his second wife (Gedung Kuning family). Nursafina Shariff (in hijab) is the great, great-granddaughter of Haji Yusoff with Noribah, his first wife (North Bridge Road family). Both of them helped set up the museum without receiving any payment or allowance. Why? Cos they ‘sayang’ (love) their ‘leluhur’ (ancestors) and family!
