Cactus and snake plants aren't all spines and needles. Here are a few of my propogations, featuring snake plants and opuntia cactus propogations in cactus shaped glasses. Helios in the pink jar was sold as a sunburst prickly pear and new growth comes in pink 💚🌵 here's hoping for more growth on this shelf. I removed the large snake plant pieces / leaves from the propogated sprouts and replanted those in pon. The glasses have no drainage so I'll have to be careful. The shelf has a Barrina T5 5000K light and plants are getting 400-500 FC when recommendations from @houseplantjournal are close to 1000FC for cactus - but this is significantly more than enough for the snakes. New plant, a variegated epiprenum pinnatum 'cebu blue' from @camoflagepgh I saw it in the shop on Friday and loved it, but I don't have any pothos success stories, so I was nervous to try it. Later that night, I said to my partner, "It sucks that I can't grow pothos, because I saw the prettiest variegated one today." My partner says, "not with that attitude you can't", and, well, challenge accepted. I was back the next day for a pothos. Happy Tillandsia Tuesday from my air plants. The first, a tillandsia xerographica or "King of Air Plants" is named for Elvis Aaron Presley. The second, a tillandsia rubra, is named "Aaron Sorkin". They live in a southeast window behind some window film, and I water them every 10-14 days by soaking them in water until I remember to remove them. Sunday evenings, I care for my plants. Tonight the @planta_app progress updates include new growth on a moonshine and a silver princess snake plants. I add @good.dirt fertilizer to their water, and now that it's March, I add it every time I water. My office has become a plant haven I call my "Snaketuary" with self-watering pots from @lechuza.world and a 6-foot wide southeast-facing window, supplemented by over 20 plant lights. While snake plants can survive in low light, proper lighting and fertilizer make them thrive. Since adopting what I think is a Cereus hexagonus, Distractus, from @camoflagepgh at the end of August, we've seen real progress (first image). Initially, given the large scar (last image), there were doubts about its growth potential. We positioned it in a corner with optimal lighting and minimally intervened. Imagine my surprise when I went to rotate him (a rare occurrence) and found this. I'm impressed. Are you? Given this new growth, I'm reconsidering the timing for repotting. Typically, I avoid repotting during blooming periods, but I'm curious about you. Do you repot cacti while they're actively growing? Upgraded lights on my "Theater of Thorns" under the living room tv, featuring 37 cacti. On this cabinet, which is 6-12 ft from a southeast window, the lighting consists of 3 2' @barrina_us T8 5000K LED plant lights mounted to a PVC stand I designed with help from some friends and constructed myself. These lights give 400 - 1600 FC, depending on distance. This is in keeping with recommendations from @houseplantjournal for lighting cacti and succulents. Inside each glass front cabinet are 3 1' @barrina_us T5 5000K LED plant lights. The plants inside these cabinets get 700-2000 FC, which I think is amazing. The plants that aren't in nursery pots have been repotted into @lechuza.world pon. The second photo is of my new and upgraded cactus observation post, where I just got a new elephant footstool at Aldi, today.
