Giant Mosaic recycled wood heart commission completed and ready for a happy client. This is made completely from salvaged timber. The client requested some blue shades, white and golds to match the decor in the room it's going in. I just can't get enough of these chartreuse/yellow #weldcoloured poppies. They have slight modifications including adding a little copper to the dye bath. When I put them together with the bluebells, white champion and white poppies I'd been playing around with, it really set the colour off. The dark colours are all achieved by dyeing with #redonionskin and #aldercones. Anyway, Happy Saturday to all! What are you doing today? Rubix Cube. 63cm x 66cm. Made from salvaged timber. As a child of the 80's I had one of these. And couldn't for the life of me figure it out. All I could manage was to complete one side. Well, I thought I'd create this piece of wall art in tribute to the lost hours spent twisting my melon over this classic 80's toy. This proved almost as impossible as the real thing to complete and get looking the way I wanted. My aim was for it to jump out of the wall at you and look 3D. And when I stood back and looked at this, it twisted my melon all over again😂 This is for sale so message me for details. 🚗 Aunty On Tour 🚙 We took a trip down the M61 today to @manchestercraft and the Material Journeys exhibition, showcasing their 17th annual @mcrschart graduate award winners. It was great to catch up with graduate artist Thomas Radburn @tomssart again after meeting at @great_northern_events #GNCCF about the alchemy of glass and the possibilities of creating glass from Blackpool sand. 👀 Congratulations to all the winners exhibited. The centre is full of artists working and selling all under one roof. We loved meeting, seeing, and chatting about their work and their working studios. There aren't many places where you get to see the magic happen from such a wide range of creatives all in one place, so next time you're in Manchester, we definitely suggest you take a minute and visit. The Material Journeys exhibition runs until Saturday 30th March 2024.
Delivered new work this week to the lovely Platform Gallery in Clitheroe, located in the old Victorian railway station. The show aims to exhibit the best of British sustainable craft and runs until April. Some amazing opportunites have come from taking part in the @great_northern_events this year… This micro project is based on the demolition of Fiddlers Ferry power station. My dad used to be a senior manager there so when it was suggested to me as a project by the producer of a mesmerising film ‘Backlands’ I couldn’t resist. #findamakerweek I was doing so well and then I missed yesterday which was Best seller. I don’t really have one as my sales vary so much through the year. Dragonflies are a usual favourite with everyone, but I prefer this picture of a stag! 😆 So today’s theme is 5 favourites. What an impossible task! Day four of Find a Maker Week and I didn’t think it through! Today’s theme is Best Seller. Undoubtedly this is Staithes Paintbox. These colours have inspired so many pieces, first in cotton and then to my favourite lambswool. I think people like the playfulness, the lightness and that it goes with absolutely any outfit. The double-sided nature to this structure gives further variation so therefore always a new combination to be seen on every wearing. My latest draft design is Staithes Festival, a small tribute to the beauty of the village all decked out in bunting. I’m twisting fringes and checking everything before wet finishing tomorrow. I have a few original Staithes Paintbox scarves left, including in a shorter jacket length.
