In light of another astonishingly ill-considered decision by Glasgow City Council, we are once again faced with a pressing issue that threatens the vitality of our local economy. As many of you may be aware, GCC is proposing to implement costly evening parking charges from 6-10pm in the city centre. As a long-established, family-owned restaurant, we feel compelled to voice our concerns about this decision and its potentially devastating ramifications on businesses, residents, and workers alike. These proposed parking charges not only risk dissuading people from driving into the city centre, thereby reducing footfall and patronage to local establishments, but they also unfairly burden hospitality staff and late-night workers who rely on cars due to limited public transport options. It is unjust and unreasonable to subject both workers and visitors to the city centre to late-night parking fees, especially given the numerous challenges they already face. Rather than introducing new measures that will undoubtedly prove to be counterproductive, the city council should prioritise advocating for solutions that bolster local businesses and benefit the community at large. We stand united against this proposal and urge Glasgow City Council to reconsider its decision before further damage is done to our local economy and community. In solidarity with our fellow businesses and employees, we invite you to join us in opposing these detrimental parking charges by signing and sharing the petition that we will share in our story. Together, let us convey the message to GCC that this damaging policy will have adverse effects on businesses, discourage patrons from visiting the city centre in the evenings, and ultimately hinder the overall economic growth of Glasgow.
