This lens represents why you #hirelocal. I was shooting a #keywestwedding last weekend and one of my main lenses took a hard fall, taking it out of commission the rest of the event. Of course, I always have backups (shoutout to my amazing colleague @mark.funkhouser who took over grabbing the 70-200 shots the rest of the day), so carried on without issue, but once I got home and took stock of the damage, called the insurance company and Canon directly the next day, I realized I would not have the repair back in time for this weekend’s sessions. Could I live without it? Sure. But that focal length is a pretty key part of my style and I didn’t really want to sacrifice the quality of my other shoots. I’m no stranger to renting gear when I need it, but on a hunch I reached out to several #keywestphotographers to see what I might be able to source locally. I was so relieved when @irismoorephoto texted me back almost immediately. “Not only do I have the lens, but you can use my R6 as well… (a really nice mirrorless)….I’m packing it up now and it’ll be ready for you”. No hesitation, no issue, no problem. This is the power of working with professionals IN their local community. When something goes wrong as it will inevitably happen, they have a network of support around them, so you as the end client never have to worry. I can’t tell you how many visiting photographers *I* myself have bailed out of a situation when luggage got lost, pieces were missing, something wouldn’t fire, and so on. So grateful to Iris for the help and to the key west photographic community as a whole. Hi 👋🏼 As we get into the thick of the busy spring season here in the DMV, I wanted to take a quick moment to introduce myself. I am the Venue Manager of Cold Saturday Farm [ @coldsaturdayfarm ] in Finksburg Maryland and could not love my job anymore than I do. During my time here, I have met some incredibly warm and welcoming industry professionals who have no idea how talented they are. This is not my first career path. I am a retired cardiac ultrasonographer who unfortunately tore her shoulder from overuse and poor working conditions in a Baltimore hospital during COVID. I have always loved helping people who may feel a little out of depth, providing a listening ear and doing a bit of hand holding if it makes a difference in someone’s life. I am so grateful for this turn of life events as it led me to this opportunity and community. I have always been a planner, even as a kid I’d want to know everything about where we were going on vacation so I could research and make my own itinerary. And I have always been an entrepreneur, listening to peoples dilemmas and looking for ways to proactively solve them. Lastly, I have always been thorough and passionate about making the most of every experience ahead. I developed The Fancyfarmfling as a way to help couples [I see and meet a lot of them!] planning a big event feel confident, as well as create community within this sometimes extremely tiring and isolating social media heavy industry.
