Ski hills vary greatly in terrain and some resorts aren’t ideal for beginners, and others might not have enough challenging terrain for expert skiers, while others have a little bit of everything for everyone. -Where on mountain do you want to stay? Most people immediately say they want ski in/ski out lodging…but I like to learn more about group dynamics and preferences before making a recommendation on where is best to stay. -Where are you coming from? Not all ski hills have an airport nearby, so a longer drive by car may be necessary…or the airport may be a small regional airport with only a few flights in and out each day. -How much money do you want to spend? Some resorts are decidedly more expensive than others, if you’re undecided on where to visit, I can make recommendations that align with your price point. I finally went to @arapahoe_basin and it was so beautiful 😍 I’ve always heard how hard it is (which I agree, it’s not a beginner friendly mountain) so I hadn’t ever gone because I was intimidated. Honestly, it was better for me to wait until later in the season when I’ve had more practice. It would’ve been too much for me earlier. But when a friend said they were supposed to get snow today, I decided to go! I’m so glad I did! There was at least 6” of snow in the parking lot and up to 10” at the top of the mountain 🙌🏼 It was some of the best snow I’ve skied all season…in (almost) the middle of May 😂 Colorado is wild, y’all. ❄️ snap from the top(ish) - the wind was pretty brutal at times so we didn’t stick around at the top once we got off the lift lol 🏔️ the lighting was so beautiful on the peaks 🚡 I love this shot 🎿 pow day 🚠 first run of the day 👀 skier triggered avalanche off of Loveland (on the drive back home) ❄️ views from the lodge ☀️ it finally got sunny out 🌲 frosty trees on the drive up 🚘 Loveland pass
And that’s a wrap for the season, one last trip to Breck last week (lol I doubt I’m going to make it out to Abasin this year) to actually get somewhat of a full day in versus the shortened day at Copper the week before courtesy of Jeff Bezos 🫡 It was definitely melting out quickly as only Peaks 6 and 7 were open from the bottom (I went later in May last year and everything was still open), but it was all new terrain for me as I’d never been this side before and I even got a black run in—overshot the junction and ended up having to hike out a bit, but could have been worse 🫠 Lol seems I need to replace the other lens on my 360 camera as well, the stitching was off on most of my footage and this was the only one that came out somewhat decent (slide 3)😑 Kind of weird being able to snowboard all day and then walk around town in shorts afterward. I often look at @whistlerblackcomb thru my lens as my muse, carefully positioning terrain features, shadows and skiers in harmony with each other. These views though 🤩 This has not been the best timed year for skiing for me due to the trips I’ve taken and avalanche risk.. however the few times I did get up in the mountains 100% makes up for it. Learning to ski as an adult is always going to have its challenges, you don’t bounce up like all the 5 year olds around you and that’s okay!
