This evening they moved a barge loaded with steel to the United processing site at Tradepoint Atlantic. Day 32 - I finally found the big T&T Marine Salvage claw in the Donjon Marine equipment yard at Tradepoint Atlantic. The claw looked to be sitting on the Chesapeake 1000 barge. April 16, 2024 Big Lift . The DONJON Marine, Chesapeake 1000 , raised this section of the Key Bridge today with the deck just above the water. It was a well choreographed move that I watched for 3 hours as tugs, barges, and assorted agency vessels moved about. The Navy Dive Team boat was also spotted. . While this structure looks large, it's small compared to other exposed sections. Day Nineteen - We had some strong winds on the Patapsco River the last several days. The wind anemometer on the key bridge dolphin recorded steady 30 mph WNW winds with gusts approaching 45mph. It looked like all the cranes left the bridge area and headed for safety. The winds were calm at 5mph this morning as I photographed the sunrise over Tradepoint Atlantic. It didn’t take long for everything to get moving and return to the bridge. The Chesapeake 1000 left the dock and is now on site in the main channel. I did not see the Weeks 533 anywhere. Day eleven - I never know what I will see or who I will meet every day I run out to photograph the activities surrounding the Key Bridge removal. The equipment at the DONJON base of operations keeps growing and I met the crew of the Thomas D Witte who is moving it all around. With all the bad weather this past week they have not had it easy. On their return trip from Norfolk, they encountered 5-8 foot waves making it a slow and rough trip up the Chesapeake to Baltimore. The tug is also being used as the means for the crews returning from bridge work to get up on the main pier. The smaller crew boats pull along the port and starboard sides of the tug and their passengers climb on and then walk to the bow where it is an easy step onto the pier. Yesterday I got to tag along with fellow sailor, Mark Hergan with @deadrise_marine_photography to go see what’s left of the bridge. All week the collapse has felt shocking and unimaginable. I used to be able to see the bridge from my apartment and it’s absense is very weird. Knowing I will not be sailing under this summer still doesn’t feel real. Seeing it from out on the water was somber, but then we met the crew aboard Tugboat Brian Nicholas. Meeting some of the guys that will be working on salvage made next steps all feel more tangible. So many hardworking teams and equipment have come to Baltimore to help. They are from all over the eastern seaboard, but will quickly come to be part of the Maryland Tough Baltimore Strong everyone keeps talking about. I look forward to continuing to follow progress and maybe get lucky enough to snap a photo or two if I get the chance. These are some photos I took March 31,2024 of the bridge, tugs and cranes ready to get to work.

The winds have been steady with higher gusts but moderated today, as I observed more Police, Coast Guard, and crew boat activity. .
