🪸 Recycled Reef 🪸 ✨ collaborative project for the kids Today is #worldreefday which reminded me of this recycled 3D reef from last year which I made with Alice 🤩 we used an upturned moulded cardboard carton for the bottom, and added on painted cardboard rolls, egg boxes, and flat cardboard shapes. We included pine cones and painted sticks, and some rosemary springs for greenery (but omit these if you want it to last for a very long time!). The whole craft was prompted by the beautiful nonfiction book The Great Barrier Reef. This is one of the captivating series Earth's Incredible Places by @flyingeyebooks who really excel at this sort of visually stunning fact packed books. 🌸 Ladybird Maths 🌸 It seems we're having a bit of a bug week. For todays sensory play, I invited Mottaqi to work on some numeracy. Mottaqi counted the spots on the ladybirds and helped them find their space on our daisy sensory puzzle. He then enjoyed lots of free play with the pluffle sensory station. We've not used pluffle before - he was very intrigued by the texture and the way it moves, almost as if it has a life of its own. At one point, Mottaqi decided to fill the daisy with pluffle. What a fab idea! 🐌 Bug Hunt 🐌 We're going on a bug hunt. We're going to find some big ones. We're not scared. We've been reading the new @yuvalzommer book featuring all sorts of wonderful insects recently. Mottaqi used to be terrified of insects to the point where he would cry hysterically at the sight or sound of one. To help him overcome his fears, we've been learning about insects. Mottaqi loved watching our @insectloreeu caterpillars transform into butterflies and even held one when we released them last week 👏🏼 For a bookish play, I set up a bug hunt. Mottaqi had fun scooping up sand, mark making with the rollers, matching insects to the flashcards, and hiding things in the sand. There was a lot of imaginative play going on - he made a wonderful strawberry and coconut birthday cake with candles, five currant buns, and so much more. Baby Adeel managed to get his hands on the tray and enjoyed exploring sticks, leaves, and log slices. Verb sorting doughnuts... In English, majority of simple past tense verb form is created by simply adding a "d" sound (-ed/-d) at the end of the present tense form. Hiya has been taught this at school and as any other bi/multilingual kid, she has started to misuse this rule with all verb words. For example, throw becomes "throwed" and think becomes "thoughted"! Usually we correct these mistakes and encourage her to look at the verb forms while reading storybooks, I felt that a lesson on the rules on changing verb forms between simple past and present tenses is required. I have explained these rules in a simple way for Hiya: ▶️Most verbs follow the above mentioned rule in which the base word remains the same (phonetically). These are called regular verbs. ▶️Some verbs do not follow this rule and either stay the same or change into a different sounding (and spelled) form altogether. These are irregular verbs. 🍩✏️🍩✏️🍩 For the activity, I have labelled round "confetti" with common verbs and placed them in a "sprinkle bottle" on the sorting mat. ➡️Hiya has to pick a verb "confetti", try speaking the present and past tense forms and place them on either the doughnut with round "icing" for regular verb or the doughnut with uneven "icing" for irregular verbs. ➡️She also has to write the past form in the hole of the doughnuts which brings us to look at spelling rules of adding -ed/-d to regular verbs. Bear sees colours sensory book play This book is one of Ashers' old favourites. We didn't have a copy, but I recently obtained one, and I couldn't help but set up this sensory, book play to surprise them. Lily has been mastering her colours and Asher his letters, so this setup was the perfect fit! We did this on a cold rainy day and spent all afternoon with this one.. we had an unreasonable amount of fun learning through play. For this play, we: •Read through the story, talking about each colour and what we saw in the space that matched. •Colour sorted our rainbow pompoms into the grapat bowls •Worked on fine motor skills by filling up our bear paw tray and bowls with different coloured rice. •Matched our rainbow letters to the correct colours •Went through our rainbow alphabet and tried to find an item to match each letter (which also ended up being a hilarious search and find throughout the house) •Worked on counting the amount of each coloured pompoms with our counting tray •Played small world style and made a giant mess in our rainbow filler! My daughter loves Greek mythology which led me to become super hooked on Homer’s Odyssey lately. This is a simple board game recreating Odysseus’ journey from Troy to Ithaca, where he had to outsmart Cyclops, negotiated with the evil witch Circe, travelled to Hades’ underworld, overcame the sirens, battled the six-headed monster Scylla and the whirlpool, and escaped the island of Calypso. Due to my lack of talent in design, I did end up using a bunch of labels I found at home. 💗{Carte I love you}💗 Avant de commencer un nouveau thème autour des gourmandises, je vous propose une dernière création pour la fête des mères. J'ai réalisé une carte I love you Maman, tout en découpage et collage. Vous pouvez télécharger le gabarit pour les lettres gratuitement sur mon blog. J'ai commencé par découper des bandes de 3,7cm de large sur 21 cm de long : deux roses et deux violettes. Je les ai collées sur une feuille cartonnée noire en les alternant et en les espaçant de manière régulière. Ensuite, j'ai découpé les moitiés de lettres en m'aidant des gabarits imprimés. J'ai reconstitué chaque lettre en collant chaque moitié en inversant les couleurs par rapport au fond. Pour finir, j'ai arrondi les angles. Line Art Drawings - Flowers & Butterflies 🌼🦋🦋🌸 My kindergarten students made these beautiful drawings combining blooms and butterflies using a black marker. ✍️ These black line drawings on colorful backgrounds turned out so lovely that I thought they would make the perfect gift for moms as this Sunday we are celebrating Mother’s Day in Morocco. 💝 Our colorful backgrounds are the tinfoil marker prints made at the beginning of this school year. How did we make them? It’s super easy! World Turtle Day I created a cardboard turtle birthday card using our @littlebrianpaintsticks for my nephew, complete with Ninja Turtle masks! The original design was inspired by @raisingarabella_and_asher gorgeous hatching turtle sensory puzzle but I added a teenage mutant ninja turtles twist. The little masks have double sided tape on them meaning they can quickly be applied and taken off. Adding split pins meant that the head, flippers and tail could move backwards and forwards. I also added a split pin to the shell to make it open and this is where the little masks are kept. Such a fun craft! J'ai récupéré des supports en plastique chez Lidl ( ceux en amande support à gel douche Dop et le petit au niveau des caisses support pour les œufs en chocolat). Dedans j'ai Collé des gommettes et papiers de couleurs.
