#TBT to the first time I went to @winnipegcomiccon (back when it was called C4) and hung out with my most favourite #droid in the galaxy. This one is bittersweet for me because I am actually pregnant in this photo. With twins that I would never meet. That was also the convention where I met #DavidProwse and got him to autograph my (deceased) father's 1992 VHS box set of the Star Wars #OriginalTrilogy. I told him I was expecting twins and he wished me well. Unfortunately, about 10%-20% of pregnancies end in #miscarriage and this one did. It's so strange to think that I would have two 10-year-olds (they'd be 11 in June) if things had turned out otherwise. But then, I likely wouldn't have my curious 9-year-old and possibly might not have my sweet 6-year-old. We just never know what the future holds, but we roll with it. . #jabberwocky1977 Co-Written & Directed by #terrygilliam UK #jabberwocky (J) is a relatively low budget, medieval period set, high quality #fantasycomedy film that often times, crosses over into the realm of the bizarre & surreal. Very much in the style #montypython movies. Though in some places it was marketed as being so against the director's wishes, this is not a true full team Python picture. Gilliam (Brazil, 85, Fear & Loathing In Las Vagas', 98) takes the helm, in his solo directorial debut, though he had co-directed the previously featured all time #cultclassic 'MP's Holy Grail', 75, which this film, while not as good bears more than a passing or coincidental resemblance. The film also stars the always funny #michaelpalin & #terryjones & Gilliam also appear. However key players in MP's comic genius Graham Chapman, John Cleese & Eric Idle are absent. J though funny with both slapstick & clever word play is not as consistently funny as as any of the full team's movies. Moreover, while the movie parodies bureaucracy, commerce, religion & royalty & presents more than it's surface adventure story, the script lacks the perceptive & critical satirical depth of the full team flick. Like the Python films the set pieces, costumes & camera work, shot on location, catching the scenic countryside of S. Wales, from cinematographer #terrybedford who also shot 'Holy Grail' are all exquisite. This comic book style romp is based on Lewis Carroll's nonsense poem Jabberwocky, which was in the kid's classic 'Through the Looking-Glass', 1871. With a 'Life Of Brian', 79 style central theme of mistaken identity the film follows Dennis (Palin) an apprentice Cooper, caste out of his village, peasant home to make his way in life with nothing. He is mistaken for a brave Prince on a mission to kill the dread dragon J, (Linnes in a Godzilla style costume) who is terrorizing the local castle community. Circumstance pushes Dennis into a misfortune filled hunt for the beast. Recommended.

A história sobre a voz do Darth Vader : Enquanto o filme "Star Wars" estava sendo filmado (1977), a produção já estava claro que a voz de Darth Vader seria dublada em pós-produção. No entanto, desconhecia-se o fato de que a voz de David Prowse, o fisiculturista e ator britânico que interpretou Darth Vader não seria usada. George Lucas precisava que Vader tivesse uma voz "mais intimidante" e "mais escura" (e compreendesse o último "não em termos étnicos"). Por isso, Lucas vinha embaralhando a ideia de usar a voz do renomado ator e cineasta Orson Welles. Mas essa ideia foi imediatamente descartada, precisamente por ser uma voz "muito reconhecível". Imaginar Orson Welles por trás da máscara escura de Vader não era o efeito que Lucas desejava. Foi então que surgiu o nome James Earl Jones, uma voz talvez menos reconhecível do que a de Welles, mas que preenchia de sobra todos os requisitos do personagem. Curiosamente, este ator sofreu na infância de um grave problema de gaguejar, por isso se recusava a falar alto. A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away… I found my special edition Star Wars original trilogy VHS’s! Haven’t seen this box set in absolute YEARS. I visited my parents a week or so ago, low and behold, this historical artefact was located in the boxes and boxes of stuff still there. The special editions are essentially George Lucas menacingly laughing as he adds extra effects and new creatures to scenes that just didn’t really need em! Bit of an odd comparison here but, beyond reanimator is strangely similar to this film and it came out over twenty possibly thirty years earlier! Mad doctor gets reign over a prison (in this case an asylum) in which they are the inmate. Monster mayhem ensues, less so here obviously but you get my point. This one gets the baron back on track to not be a rapist and nowhere near as much of a monster, he's driven most definitely but nowhere near as evil in this one and that quite nice to get back to. The monster this time is Davis prowse and whilst it's quite silly looking I do like the neanderthal design and think the whole film was just a lot of fun. Some of the gore was surprisingly gross like when frankenstein clamps an artery closed with his teeth. Nasty nasty stuff but pretty awesome too. If you like hammer this is no exception its more of the same but great fun all the same! One final point; avoid this DVD! The answer to the question in my last post, which was what (or in this case who) linked the alien in the Space 1999 episode The Beta Cloud with Star Wars? The answer is Dave Prowse MBE (1935-2020). He received full guest star billing in the Space 1999 episode, although he only ever appeared in creature costume & never made anything other than grunting sounds. He was of course cast as Darth Vader in the original trilogy (episodes 4-6). There were limitations to the performance. In real life the British Prowse had a broad West Country accent, so Vader was voiced by American actor James Earl Jones. And when his face was revealed at the end of Return of the Jedi, the visage shown was that of actor Sebastian Shaw. The reason for this was never made clear but apparently George Lucas was unhappy with Prowse for allegedly dropping spoilers to the press. At least the photo here shows what his big reveal might have looked like.... In the UK Prowse became famous in the early 1970s for a series of tv commercials as the Green Cross Man, providing advice to children on how to safely cross the road.
