. . #ujjain #ujjainnews #news #dailycitynews #dailyupdates #ujjainis_creations

MUMBAI: It has come to light that the Maharashtra Assembly speaker Rahul Narwekar has scheduled the hearing for the disqualification case of Shiv Sena MLAs between the first week of October and the last week of November. The submissions will start on October 6, the day Narwekar ends his official tour of Ghana, where he is participating in the Commonwealth Parliamentary Convention. The final argument has been scheduled after cross-examination by both sides, which begins on November 23.The cross-examination will take place twice a week and the date of the final argument will be two weeks after the cross-examination is over (most probably in December). The entire schedule is subject to change in case of holidays and requests from the parties for adjournment.Considering the lengthy process, an early outcome in the case is unlikely. On October 13, both sides will argue on clubbing all petitions together. While the Shiv Sena (UBT) is for this, Team Shinde is against it. Both sides will be allowed to verify official documents between October 13 and 20. Narwekar will give his verdict in the matter of clubbing the pleas on October 20. Seven days later, arguments for the documents for admission and rejection will be heard. November 6, 10 and 20 have been reserved for written submissions, exchange of documents between the two factions, arguments for decisive points, and filing of affidavits. The lawyers for both sides will start cross-examining on November 23.They will be given dates as per their convenience, twice a week. till the process lasts. If everything goes well, the cross-examination will begin in December. Narwekar said the decisions would not be taken in haste, and at the same time, the petitions would be heard without any delay. The case pertains to the Shiv Sena (UBT)'s demand for the disqualification of 16 MLAs for defying the party whip. The Election Commission of India had ratified Team Shinde as the original Shiv Sena and allotted it the original party name and election symbol of bow and arrow. #shivsena #mlas #disqualification #hearings #october #continue #december #mumbai #dcn #dcnmumbai #dailycitynews

The Deccan Education Society Pune University (DESPU) and MIT Vishwaprayag University are two private universities in Pune district that were bestowed with varsity status by the Maharashtra government during in the monsoon session of the state assembly in July this year. The total number of private universities in Pune district has increased to around 17, the highest in the state. DESPU is all set to have schools tailored for commerce and management, science and mathematics, engineering and technology, humanities and social sciences, and design and arts; thus launching a cumulative of five schools and 21 programmes under them. Opined Professor Prasad D Khandekar, Founder-Vice-Chancellor, DESPU, “The need of the hour for India is to provide a world-class education that will equip students to become future leaders and contribute significantly to regional, national, and global developments. While the aim is to provide globally competitive education, the value system will also ensure quality learning above all. We persist in pursuing this identical trajectory, progressing to the subsequent rational phase as a hub for generating knowledge and resources built on years of expertise and knowledge.” Sharad Kunte, President, DESPU, shared, “We will set up three research institutes — Indian knowledge systems, cyber-physical systems, and life sciences — with accomplished researchers, project grants and state-of-the-art infrastructure.” “Conceptualised and conceived with a holistic approach towards education, DESPU is firmly aligned with the framework of the National Education Policy 2020, reflecting its core principles. In addition to offering foundation courses at the bachelor’s level and specialisation courses at the major and minor levels, the university will also engage its resources in experiential learning courses,” added President Kunte. #deccaneducationsociety #educational #institutions #bestowed #university #status #pune #punecity #punecitynews #maharashtra #dcn #dcnpune #dailycitynews

MUMBAI: Eight years after artist Hema Upadhyay and her lawyer Haresh Bhambhani were found murdered, a sessions court on Wednesday reserved the judgement in the case. Four men, including Hema’s estranged husband artist Chintan Upadhyay, are facing trial on charges including murder. The judgement is now likely to be delivered on October 5. Upadhyay, an installation artist, and her lawyer Harish Bhambhani were allegedly smothered to death on December 12, 2015. Their bodies were packed in cardboard boxes and dumped in a drain in Kandivali in suburban Mumbai. The bodies were spotted by a garbage collector, following which an investigation started into the case. According to the prosecution, Hema had not been on good terms with her estranged husband Chintan Upadhyay, who allegedly was the “pioneer of the conspiracy” to murder his wife and her lawyer. The prosecution, in its final submission on September 2, argued that Chintan Upadhyay was driven by “hatred” towards Hema and her lawyer, said special prosecutor Vaibhav Bagade. According to the prosecution, Chintan conspired and hired Vidyadhar Rajbhar, who is accused of executing the murders along with others. Vidyadhar has not been arrested till now. However, the other accused -- Vijay Rajbhar, Pradeep Rajbhar, Shivkumar Rajbhar and Azad Rajbhar, who were alleged to have been part of the murder, were put behind bars along with Chintan Upadhyay. In 2021, the Supreme Court granted bail to Chintan Upadhyay. #judgement #hemaupadhyay #hareshbhambhani #murders #october5 #mumbai #mumbaicity #mumbaicitynews #maharashtra #dcn #dcnmumbai #dailycitynews

PUNE: It has come to the forefront that soon after the Ganesh idol immersion on Thursday marking the end of the 10-day-long Ganesh festival, SWaCH waste pickers of the Pune Municipal Corporation sprung into action and collected 150 tonnes of votive offerings for composting. They also segregated 40 tonnes of dry waste that mainly consists of plastic bags, clothes , footwear, etc, from the immersion points. In an effort to have sustainable celebrations through the annual ‘Nirmalya to Nisarga’ initiative launched in 2007, over 200 waste pickers were stationed at 40 immersion centers across the city. Despite the rains on both days of immersion, the waste pickers shouldered the monumental task ahead of collecting floral and dry waste across the city. ‘Nirmalya to Nisarga’, which has been in force for over 15 years, has helped environmentally conscious citizens conduct immersion celebrations without causing any harm to nature. Waste pickers collected ‘Nirmalya’ offered to the deity separately on September 23 and 28 at major riverside Ghats and essential immersion centers across the city. Their efforts received a significant boost from over 120 volunteers, including corporate groups, social organisations, and students from schools and colleges. The initiative by SWaCH organised in collaboration with Pune Municipal Corporation ensures that votive offerings such as flowers, leaves, and Durva shoots return to nature. This year, SWaCH also partnered with the International Labour Organisation (ILO) for the smooth execution of the initiative. Many foreign tourists who flocked to Pune to witness the grandeur of the Ganpati festival took time to visit Nirmalya collection points. They were keen to learn about the details of the environmentally conscious initiative. A delighted Shobha Bansode, Member, SWaCH Board, said: "We are so happy with the public’s changing approach towards the celebration and the growing awareness for the environment is a welcome wind of change." #SWaCHpune #waste #pickers #collect #150 #tonnes #votive #offerings #ganeshfestival2023 #pune #punecity #punecitynews #maharashtra #dcn #dcnpune #dailycitynews

PUNE: Okay. We, at DCN, are still not over the fact Bappa took His leave of the city, three days ago, ot that the Ganesh festivities have concluded. In this age of digital media, why else would we file the final story in our Bappa series three days after His heady send-off? This year, among the many attractions of the Ganeshutsav were the installations — a major crowdpuller. Each house that welcomed Bappa home made sure that His designated abode was both unique and an act of love. A look at the altars and we realised that it took unbridled energy, effort, precision, thought, time and creativity to make His enthronement a place of wondrous beauty.A case in point was the Vaikar family from Pune.Inspired by the Punemetro, they recreated an awe-inspiring miniature replica of the Punemetro for His 10-day visit. What had us awestruck was that it was not just functional but replete with intricate detailings. This family's goal to make every year’s celebration as distinctive from the previous one came out aces. The detailling included metro pillars embellished with the Mahametro logo and symbolizing the city's progressive infrastructure paired with a burgeoning Mutha river tripping through the city, adding to the thematic display, highlighted by the iconic landmarks: Shaniwarwada, Vartakbaug, Janata Bank of Narayan Peth, Pagadi Station, Mahatma Phule Mandai, the iconic Mastani shop of Pune, Nehru and Balewadi stadia, the expansive dams of the region. Pratibha Vaikar, a proud member of Clan Vaikar shared: "This year, we recreated the metro. We began prepwork almost 12 days before the festival. The entire family signed up to welcome Bappa home.To view this installation, apart from our family and friends, people from all over dropped in home to pay their obeisance to Him. Every year, our only aim is to make His welcome home unique.” #metro #craze #continues #post #ganeshotsav #vaikar #family #recreates #functional #punemetro #installation #bappa #home #pune #punecity #punecitynews #maharashtra #dcn #dcnpune #dailycitynews

MUMBAI: The season's total rainfall in the city is inching closer to the 3,000mm-mark. Between June 1 and September 29, the Santacruz observatory recorded 2972.1mm of rainfall, just 28mm short of the season's average, according to India Meterological Department (IMD) data. Meanwhile, the total water stocks in the seven catchment area lakes stood at 99.3% or 14.37 lakh million litres of the total required quantum of 14.47 lakh million litres, ending any apprehension of a shortage. The Santacruz and Colaba weather stations recorded 51mm and 24mm rainfall on Thursday - the last of Ganpati idol immersions - as thunderstorms, coupled with spells of intense showers, lashed the city. The IMD even issued a nowcast warning around 3.30pm, prior to the onset of the thunder activity. The downpour in the suburbs was significant enough to flood Andheri subway for a brief period in the afternoon. Although the city did not see much rain activity on Friday - the IMD Colaba observatory recorded 2.8mm rainfall and IMD Santacruz observatory 3.3mm in the 12-hour period ending 8.30pm- the IMD has forecast thunder activity, along with lightning and gusty winds, in the Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar on Saturday. Weathermen said that the ongoing thunder activity is a sign of monsoon withdrawal. After a two-week delay, the onset of the monsoon was declared over Mumbai on June 25. Since then the city has witnessed consistent rain activity and even surpassed the average June requirement of 537mm by recording 549.6mm of rain. In July, the city witnessed bumper rainfall of 1,769.8mm against the average monthly quota of 855.7mm. In fact, by July 31, Mumbai had received the season's required average rainfall of 2,318.8mm. MUMBAI: It has come to attention that a 16-year-old died after being struck by lightning at Mumbai’s Juhu Chowpatty on Thursday. The deceased teenager has been identified as Hasan Yusuf Shaikh (16). According to the police, a preliminary investigation has revealed that Shaikh went to Juhu beach alone on Thursday afternoon to watch the Ganpati immersion on the final day of Ganesh Chaturthi. However, he was struck by lightning and fell into the water, where his body was later discovered. Prima facie it appears that he had come alone to see the Ganesh idol immersion at the chowpatty. There was no Ganpati with him, nor was he accompanying any pandal. While he stood near the water at the beach, he got struck by lightning and fell into the water. The police added that it was raining heavily when the 16-year-old was at the beach. His body was found near the sea and rescued from the sea at Juhu by lifeguards amidst the immersions and rushed to the Cooper Hospital, where doctors declared him DOA (Dead On Arrival). #teen #boy #dies #lightning #strike #juhu #beach #mumbai #mumbaicity #mumbaicitynews #maharashtra #dcn #dcnmumbai #dailycitynews

MUMBAI: It has come to light now that after a recent survey to gauge the BJP’s prospects in the Lok Sabha elections projected a worrisome picture in Maharashtra. The party plans to field bigwigs in order to improve its chances. Dy.CM Devendra Fadnavis, BJP Mumbai chief Ashish Shelar, national general secretary Vinod Tawde and assembly speaker Rahul Narwekar are likely to be among a dozen heavyweights chosen for the job. Fadnavis could be fielded from the Mumbai North-East constituency while Shelar will probably helm the Mumbai North Central base.Tawde could contest from Mumbai North, the most favourable city seat for the party, but Narwekar is the first choice for Mumbai South. The South Mumbai seat is most difficult to win as it's composed of voters from every strata: elite Malabar Hill to the slums in Parel and Kalachowki; from the typical pro-BJP Gujarati-speaking voters to Sena-supporting Marathi manoos in central Mumbai. The party's OBC face Pankaja Munde could be fielded from Beed. However, it hasn't found the right match for Pune. Forest minister and senior party leader Sudhir Mungantiwar is likely to be the choice for Chandrapur. Significantly, the Sharad Pawar-led faction of the NCP is likely to field Eknath Khadse, a prominent Leva-Patil leader, from the region. But BJP’s most momentous decision will be with regard to Fadnavis, who is literally anchoring the alliance government in the state. It's common knowledge within the party and the state’s political circles that he will move to national politics at some point. But the first indication from BJP has come now. Fadnavis will reportedly contest from Mumbai North-East, which covers the eastern suburbs from Mulund to Chembur. As per the independent agencies surveys, BJP has been projected to win 24 to 28 seats along with its ruling allies — a much lower tally than the 42 seats it won in 2019 along with its then ally, the undivided Shiv Sena. The BJP won 23 seats and the Sena 18. Of those 18 Sena MPs, 13 are with the Shinde camp. #fadnavis #shelar #tawde #narwekar #probable #mumbai #loksabha #candidates #dcn #dcnmumbai #dailycitynews

PUNE: Three migrant labourers, including two minors, from Barwani district in Madhya Pradesh were killed and two others were injured when a compact Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) ran over them on Sunday while they were walking alongside the Kalyan-Ahmednagar highway stretch at Dingore village near Otur, about 100km from the city. The accident took place between 8pm and 8.30pm last night. One of the victims, Vikram Tarole, lodged a police complaint. The deceased have been identified as Jagadish Davar (18), Dinesh Tarole (13) and Surmal Tarole (12), while the injured victims are Vikram Tarole (25) and Dinesh Jadhav (24). According to police information, all the victims fell into the roadside trench. So did the car. Purportedly, in a bid to escape, the driver reversed the car and ran over the victims again. Some of the victims had shifted to Dingore in Junnar taluka only three days before the accident. They were going to a Ganesh mandal for prasad after work when the accident occurred. The two injured — Vikram suffered a fracture in the right thigh, while Jadhav suffered fractures on the back — are undergoing treatment at a private hospital at Ale Phata. As per the police information, the SUV driver fled abandoning the vehicle at some distance from the accident site. We have impounded the SUV, owned by a Pune resident. The police are investigating whether the owner or his/her driver or anyone else was driving it. As per the police report, while walking along the highway, a speeding vehicle heading towards Otur mowed five of them. Allegedly, instead of helping the victims, the driver reversed the vehicle and tried to drive away. In that attempt, he crushed the injured victims again. The residents of the area took the five injured victims to a local hospital, where doctors pronounced three of them dead. #suv #rams #five #farm #labourers #kalyan #ahmednagar #highway #three #dead #two #injured #undergoing #treatment #police #seize #compact #sportsutilityvehicle #pune #dcn #dcnpune #dailycitynews

According to DCN sources, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) officials have also forecast light to moderate rain — between 2.5mm and 64.4mm — for Pune city till September 30. The IMD's Shivaji Nagar observatory recorded 35.9mm of rain in 33 hours — between 8.30am on Saturday and 5.30pm on Sunday. The humidity levels were recorded up to 95 percent. However, the areas of Chinchwad, Lohegaon and Lavale did not record rainfall till 5.30pm on Sunday. According to IMD, cloud patches had developed over a few parts of the city and in surrounding areas on Sunday evening, which resulted in rainfall in some areas. The overall weather conditions over Pune city since Sunday morning remained overcast. The IMD also issued a thunderstorm warning, accompanied by lightning and moderate spells of rain with momentarily strong winds reaching around 30-40kmph for the next few hours at isolated places in Pune district. "During the current spell of active monsoon conditions, the north-central part of Maharashtra is likely to get good rainfall. I feel the deficiency in rainfall may reduce in some districts in the state. Rain is likely to remain above normal in the next week commencing from September 29," said Anupam Kashyapi, Head, Forecast Division, IMD. The Met department earlier said the rainfall activity is likely to maintain its strength in the state till October 10. This is likely to delay monsoon withdrawal from the state by a few days. Normally, the monsoon withdrawal from the state starts around October 6. #weeklong #yellow #alert #ghat #sections #imd #pune #dcn #dcnpune #dailycitynews

MUMBAI: The Mumbai civic body on Wednesday appealed to people to guard themselves against the bites by sting ray and jellyfish during immersion of Lord Ganesh's idols in the sea. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has come up with a set of guidelines asking citizens to be careful given the fish-bite incidents reported at seafronts in the recent past."Be careful of sting rays, and jellyfish during Ganesh festival," the BMC said in a release.Citizens should preferably carry out immersion of idols through lifeguards and other civic machinery deployed at Chowpatties or beaches, it said. The immersion of idols takes place on different days during the ten-day Ganesh festival, which began a day before.A maximum number of idols are immersed in the sea and other water bodies on the last day of the festival the 'Anant Chaturdashi', which falls on September 28 this time. The civic body has urged citizens to ensure they wear proper clothes, use gumboots to avoid fish bites, strictly follow the instructions given by the administration through public announcement systems at sea-fronts, and not let children enter the water.Stingray bite can cause a burning sensation on the skin whereas the jellyfish bite causes itching, the BMC said, adding citizens should immediately visit the nearest primary medical centre or hospital for first aid without panicking. For treating fish bites, the BMC has kept medical rooms ready at every Chowpatty in the city, along with a 108 ambulance. It has asked citizens not to rub the fish bite injury as it might aggravate it."Mumbaikars should first wash the spot with clean water and remove the jellyfish 'sparshak' (the sting) and apply ice on the injury spot," the BMC said. The civic body said as per the information given by the state Fisheries Department, Mumbai's coastline remains full of blue button jellyfish and stingray species between August and October, which means incidents of biting may occur during immersion of Ganesh idols."Stingrays and Blue Button jellyfish are found in sandy areas of the coastline," stated BMC. #beware #stingrays #jellyfish #during #ganesh #festival #bmc #mumbai #maharashtra #dcn #dcnmumbai #dailycitynews

PUNE: As per Hindu mythology, Lord Ganesh is widely regarded as a god of wisdom and a remover of obstacles. But the benevolent deity is also known to play another role for his devotees: that of the playful protector. It is in this role that images of Ganesh appear on the stone gates of the forts located along the hilly areas of the Western Ghats. While trekking in Sahyadri hills around Pune, one might come across the Ganesh (Ganpati) idol chiselled in stone gateways to forts as ‘dwar rakshak devata’ (gate-guarding deity). This can be found in many forts in the Pune district like Korigad, Dhavalgad, Purandar.According to studies, different gods and goddesses are present as designated protectors according to cultural traditions and popularity of deities in specific regions. Some forts have a Shivling. Sinhagad has a Narsimha temple, and also village deities like the goddesses Vinjai,Janai and Megai can be seen on forts in Pune district. The customs may change in the coastal Konkan strip of Western Maharashtra where Bhairava, is also worshipped in the fort temples. But only Ganpati and Hanuman have been venerated as dwar rakshak. The forts around Pune dotting the Sahyadris with their own temples have a history of their own.Ganpati and Hanuman are seen as standing vigil in the form of ‘dwar rakshak’ at these massive fortresses. One may have observed a small Ganpati sticker or idol above doors to houses. It’s the same logic because they are the guardians and that is why they were placed above the entrances to these forts. Interestingly the word ‘Ganpati’ literally translates into protector of the clan (gana-clan, pati-leader/protector) and Ganpati is often hailed as the warrior hero. The fortifications and settlements on Sahyadris were built during the rule of Shivaji Maharaj in the 13th-14th century.Marathas were followers of the Hindu religion and so this religious symbolism is observed with relation to temple estates in the South, like Tamil Nadu, due to the unstable power dynamics in the region. #lordganesh #god #wisdom #dons #avatar #protector #western #ghats #forts #pune #maharashtra #dcn #dcnpune #dailycitynews

MUMBAI: If the fightback against the dangers of Artificial intelligence and its incursion into the creative field has caught momentum in India too led, in the main, by two of its most famous film stars —Amitabh Bachchan and Anil Kapoor. Bestselling authors like John Grisham, George Saunders among others, have sued Open AI which uses their copyrighted works to train language models. On the same day, the Delhi High Court passed an interim order protecting the ‘personality rights’ of iconic film star, Anil Kapoor. The order restrains social media channels, e-commerce sites and others from using his name -- the acronym AK -- his voice, image and referencing his iconic characters such as Lakhan, Mr India, Majnu bhai, Nayak, and the oft-used word ‘jhakaas’ with his photo without his consent for commercial use. Kapoor has also sought protection from use of any technology including AI, deepfakes, GIFs, etc.Kapoor’s act comes on the back of a similar court order sought by superstar Amitabh Bachchan in November last year, which restrained defendants from using his name, image, voice, or any of his characteristics without his permission. Kapoor opined it's high time actors started protecting themselves and their personality traits from misuse. He confessed that he had been inspired by Amitabh Bachchan. The two stars have shared the same lawyer to make their case in the Delhi High Court. He opined that he worked hard for four decades to develop a distinctive style and sees no reason to allow someone to mimic his onscreen characters or use catch phrases that have been synonymous with him, for commercial gain without his permission. He confessed that he had been inspired by Amitabh Bachchan. He took this action to protect himself for the future. He believed that actors in this part of the world were naïve and trusting but now realising that a lot goes into safeguarding them. The Indian Film Industry has received the court’s verdict with a mix of joy and trepidation. PUNE: Nauvari sarees are all the rage during Ganeshotsav this year. Many devotees are purchasing the nine-yard-wonder to celebrate the festival. Many have also purchased it for Gauri puja to drape on their idols. One saree seller, said, “Nowadays, people want to buy pre-stitched sarees that you can slip on like a skirt, without worrying about draping it from scratch. The pre-stitched variety is also a popular choice for wearing during dance performances, or for community celebrations and gatherings as it can withstand all the movement without loosening at the pleats and tucks. The cost of actual silk nine-yarder starts from ₹15,000, so many customers are opting for artificial silk nauvaris for ₹1,500.”Saree sellers on Laxmi Road say prices of the garments have increased between 20-30%, depending on quality and variety. “Some customers buy the nauvari to drape on idols during Gauri puja, some buy it for gifting, especially to honour dignitaries at many cultural events organised during this time. One might say this is because the garment now represents respect,” said Pradeep Joshi, a saree seller on Laxmi Road. Considering how the nauvari saree is not conducive for daily wear, people are looking for options to rent the attire for a day or a few days during Ganeshotsa. Sonam Aware, who runs a clothing rental service from Pune and Ahmednagar, said she gets orders for nauvari sarees from customers all over Maharashtra during Ganeshotsav. “This year, there is a trend of twinning with nauvari sarees. We have sets for mothers and daughters, sisters or even friends. The pre-stitched sizes start from two- and three-year-old to adult sizes. We also accommodate alterations on request. Many customers rent the outfits along with traditional jewellery to complete the look for photoshoots or to make content for social media.” Young professionals are thrilled to wear a nauvari for the first time at traditional wear competition at work, or because it's their first Ganeshotsav in the city and they want to immerse themselves in such traditions. #high #demand #nauvari #sarees #ganeshotsav #pune #maharashtra #dcn #dcnpune #dailycitynews

PUNE: Tamhini in Maharashtra received a massive 220mm of rainfall on Thursday, making it the first station among the ghats along the windward side of Sahyadri range to cross the 1,000mm mark of rainfall in September so far in the state. According to rainfall stats tabulated in the ghat area based on daily weather data provided by IMD, the seasonal total rainfall in Tamhini Ghat has reached 6,650mm till September 21. As a result, Tamhini Ghat now holds the top position in the Sahyadri Ghat region, surpassing Amboli that has slipped to the second position in Maharashtra's rainfall rankings. The Tamhini Ghat is in the windward side of the Sahyadri facing Konkan. This increases the chances of heavy rains in such ghat locations. However, other ghat locations along this stretch have so far not touched the 1,000mm mark in terms of total September rain. As of Friday, Tamhini Ghat had secured the top position with good seasonal rainfall of 6,706mm, making it the highest recipient of rainfall in the region. The rainfall tally of Amboli Ghat in Sindhudurg is 6,648mm. The Patgaon dam in Kolhapur was at the third position, with 6,413mm of rainfall, followed by Davdi camp in Mulshi at 6,324mm. Ghatghar Dam in Ahmednagar rounds off the top five with a seasonal rainfall total of 6,175mm. These rankings reflect the dynamic and diverse weather patterns experienced across Maharashtra's ghat regions during this year's monsoon season. PUNE: It has come to light that the Bavdhan-based La Valle Casa housing society which suffered the most during the construction of the Chandni Chowk flyover has created the same road development project as an installation for their Ganapati marquee, this year. An exact of the six-lane-road that links NDA Chowk to Bavdhan and Pashan, the installation highlights fascinating intricate detailling. One only needs to see the replica installed to marvel at its road dividers, street lights, underpass heading towards Bhugaon and paintings on the sidewalls! The cultural committee of the society huddled over to came up with an innovative tribute for the ongoing Ganeshotsav celebrations. The creative think taknk wanted to do something different. That is when in an 'Eureka! moment', the idea of Chandni Chowk sprung up. Must admit, the team has done a stellar job turning vision into reality! It was also in a way cathartic and of course, paid tribute to the Elephant God who is known to solve one's challenges. As a tribute to the resilience and dedication, they came up with the Chandni Chowk theme for the 10-day festival. Apparently, their chief architect locally sourced material used for this model. The team used cardboard sheets and paper for the model and put in girders similar to the actual overpass. They used thermocol that comes along with the packing materials for the girders. They also painted the hills that surrounds the actual project. Children in their society gave vent to their creative sides and exquisitely painted the skyline. Interestingly, everything in the design was developed from scratch and was handmade. The paintings were inspired by the actual paintings on the bridge and the hills surrounding the Chandni Chowk. All in all, a well coordinated effort, this! During the flyover construction their society faced many challenges and now their fervent prayer is that the vehicular traffic on the road is just like it appears in their model. #bavdhan #society #create #chandni #chowk #decor #ganeshotsav #pune #punecity #punecitynews #maharashtra #dcn #dcnpune #dailycitynews

MUMBAI: It has come to attention that the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Maharashtra MLA Rohit Pawar on Wednesday said that he fears the BJP-led Union government could postpone the general election from 2024 to 2026, citing the implementation of the women’s reservation Bill and ‘one nation, one election’ plan. The government at the Centre will change in the 2024 elections given their impression among the public. However, the Union government will not allow the elections to happen on time. The women’s reservation Bill has been tabled but would be implemented only after 2026. So, the BJP-led government might postpone the elections to 2026, citing the women’s quota Bill and the ‘one nation, one election. Pawar was holding court after holding a symbolic fast at Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Qada against the government’s decision to get contract employees instead of regular employees in government service. The Narendra Modi government Tuesday introduced the 128th Constitutional Amendment Bill, 2023, titled as the ‘Narishakti Vandan Adhiniyam’, to bring in 33 per cent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and all state Legislative Assemblies by extending the quota to the seats reserved for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. However, the reservation for women will kick in only after the completion of the delimitation exercise based on the first Census conducted after the passage of the Bill. While everyone welcomed the women’s reservation Bill, Pawar opined that "Maharashtra had sown its seeds by being the first state to offer reservation for women in elections to local civic bodies." The NCP MLA from Karjat-Jamkhed added that the BJP was ending careers of popular state leaders of other political parties by deliberately making their junior leaders publicly criticise their alliance parties’ leaders. He theorised: “Senior BJP leaders deliberately put forward their juniors to speak against certain popular public leaders of other parties to end their careers. MUMBAI: The Maharashtra Police have apprehended three Bangladeshi immigrants from a construction site in Pimpri Chinchwad where they have been illegally living and working for the past several months, officials said Wednesday. An investigation has revealed that the trio, identified as Sukantha Bagchi, Nayan Bagchi and Samrat, had obtained Aadhaar and Income Tax PAN from West Bengal’s Purba Bardhaman district using forged documents, the police said. They were residing in the Moshi area of Pimpri Chinchwad, officials said. An FIR was registered on Tuesday at Bhosari MIDC police station following an initial investigation by the Pune unit of the state’s Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS). According to police information it has come to light that the brother-in-law of one of the men, who has been living in West Bengal, helped them obtain Aadhaar and PAN cards and sent them to Pune to work for a construction contractor. A team from the ATS, based on input that some Bangladeshi immigrants were illegally staying at a construction site in Moshi, went to the area on September 18 and questioned the labourers, including the three men. On quizzing, the three workers revealed that they were from Bangladesh and had been living in India for several months. The trio has been booked under The Passport Act, The Passport (Entry Into India) Act and The Foreigners Act. “A team will be sent to Purba Bardhaman district for further investigation.” the officer added. In March, the Pimpri Chinchwad police arrested a Bangladesh citizen who was allegedly overstaying in India. The 35-year-old living in Old Sangvi area had come to India over a decade ago on a student visa. He stayed in India even after the expiry of the visa and married an Indian woman. Earlier this month, the Pune police arrested 19 Bangladeshi citizens, including nine women, from a brothel in the Budhwar Peth area. Probe had revealed that the suspects had entered India illegally by crossing the international border in West Bengal and then came to Pune. #three #bangladeshi #men #held #pimprichinchwad #pune #worksite #illegal #stay #india #mumbai #mumbaicity #mumbaicitynews #maharashtra #dcn #dcnmumbai #dailycitynews

PUNE: It has come to the forefront that the metro services will be available till midnight from Friday — that is, September 22, 2023 — instead of its regular time of 10pm for Ganeshotsav. If you recall a few days ago, DCN had reported the Mahametro was gearing up to present Puneites with a considerate gift on occasion of Bappa's arrival. Commuters welcomed the two-hour extension and added that they ought to operate the service till 2am on the last five days of the festival hours. However, Mahametro plans on operating the trains till 2am only on immersion day (September 28) and till midnight between September 22 and 27. A pleasant welcome, this! Considering that the extension of metro services will benefit many devotees. A number of devotees who visit the myriad Ganesh marquees late at night will prefer to commute in the Metro due to the poor condition of the roads and the possibility of rain. Meanwhile Puneites have requested that along with the Metro, the PMPML should team up with Punemetro and run more buses from the Metro stations to nearby localities. According to Mahametro, they will monitor the footfall and rush at the stations during the extended hours. As per Pune metro officials, they are preparing for services during extended hours. They are chalking out a plan to make more staffers available at key stations depending on the rush. They have also urged commuters to follow all safety norms while travelling in the Metro. However, the authorities have added that it does not have any plans to extend the services till 2am. "We will check the response of commuters," authorities stated. Here's a bit of Metro trivia: the services were extended till Ruby Hall Clinic and Civil Court from August 1.The PMC, Deccan Gymkhana and Civil Court stations are located closer to the city's central areas, which have a large number of pandals, including the Manache Paach Ganapati. Currently, the service runs at an interval of 10 minutes on the PCMC to Civil Court route and 15 minutes on the Vanaz to Ruby Hall Clinic route, depending on the rush hour. #metro #trains #run #midnight #friday #pune #punecity #punecitynews #maharashtra #dcn #dcnpune #dailycitynews
