We had some rainy/snowy weather the past two days, which always means it's a great time to read. A Black and Solemn Silence - Danielle Thompson 📕27/90 ⭐3.5 52 Book Club Challenge Prompt: 33. An abrupt ending A Black and Solemn Silence is book one in the author's Color by Numbers series being released on May 7. It looks like there will be 9 books in this series overall. The series is finished, so each book will be released a few months after the last. For example, the second book, A Splash of Burgundy will be released on June 11, 2024, and the third will be released on August 6, 2024. I liked the kitsune mythology. I'm definitely into mythological creatures and foxes, so kitsunes are extremely interesting. I knew they could shapeshift and they were traditionally seen as tricksters or sometimes, malicious. In this series, they can sense emotions and feed off of souls. But positive emotions coming from a person's soul is not as "good" as negative emotions like fear. I'm curious to see how Kuro and Jaden's relationship evolves. Kuro is fairly simple enjoying the beauty and the comfort of the forest, spending hours watching a spider weave its web. On the other hand, Jaden is restless and yearns for a busier lifestyle. Their relationship up until the events of this book is one where Kuro naively does his own thing and ignores the violent/sociopathic behavior of Jaden. I do believe our Kuro is growing something that resembles a spine. I wish Jaden's character had been fleshed out a little more. Right now he just feels like a flat psychopath and I'm hoping he gets a little more nuance. 😂 Overall Thoughts: I'm interested in continuing the series. I'd recommend to those who enjoy mythological creatures and paranormal romance (although, book 1 is light on romance). Look what came in the mail today – A Splash of Burgundy arcs! Ooh, this one’s gonna hit different 🫣 . The first two books look GORGEOUS next to each other, and I couldn’t be happier. I like how dark Jaden looks in that top corner, swallowed by the shadows.
