6/12/21 - Cathedral Rock I had been wanting to hike this the whole week and we finally did it! Another 6am start to beat the 100 degree day. It was considered “moderate” on All-Trails. I would classify it as difficult! There were parts that we had to climb on our hands and knees. The whole way up I just kept thinking how on earth am I going to get down?? There was a lot of sliding involved 😂. Two takeaways from this hike. 1. As much as I love hiking I definitely do not want to be a mountain climber. They say don’t look down - which works on the way up but on the way down you have to look down to see where you are going! I’ve included a couple of pics of views on the way down. 2. There are many, many people who think nothing of walking out on ledges for photo ops! There was a ledge on the side after we reached the top and people were lined up for pictures. People doing yoga poses, a mom with her two young girls and even a dog peeking over the edge! Just Wow!! We had a yummy brunch at The Coffee Pot (home of 100 different omelettes) after our hike and then found the Oak creek swimming hole to cool off. We ended our fabulous week in Sedona with more pool time and then Brian grilled quesadillas as we watched our last Sedona sunset. Sedona Part 1: I came, I saw, I hiked way more than I planned 🌵☀️🥾 After realizing it had been 11 years since my last time in Sedona - I instantly joined my parents on their annual getaway. Because who doesn’t want their 36 year old daughter tagging along? I’ve called this trip my “vision quest” because there is something calming about the desert scenery and of course recovering from the double whammy that was inauguration + commencement. On top of which, I am now 8 months post op of my second herniated disc and I wanted to see where I literally/figuratively stood. And the back - she good. She really good! Days 1-3 featured downtown Sedona and venturing into crystal shops. Fun fact- wearing amethyst cures drunkness. Also these shops are killing it! The rocks were like $9 a pop and they had smudging kits! Don’t worry about their pandemic recovery 💰 Completed two hikes which I heartedly recommend 🌵🌵🌵 Courthouse Loop: easy trail that circles courthouse bluff and good intro to desert hike ie good god it is hot 🥵 Doe Mountain: moderate hike that takes some steep climbs but once at plateau the views were 👌 Front pic is my fav - me crushing Doe and checking that view 💪 Restaurant Reqs - Cowboy Club and Coffee Pot, the latter home of the 101 omelet menu.
