It's been such a special week back in NH. I photographed incredible assignments for others and art projects for myself. This image is called "Back to My Roots"... I drove back to my mom's hometown in Union Village, Vermont. When I got to this covered bridge, I took some images on it, to document me, “covering” the same footsteps as my mama covered...my grandma covered…and even my great-grandma covered. Just finished watching “Elvis” and I’m crying…wow. He was an inspiration…and what a sad story. I remember the exact moment I learned of his death, August of 1977 at the dinner table when my dad came home on supper break, in uniform, while working 3-11pm shift at the station. I met Tara 11 years ago at an event I was photographing, and have been blessed to get to know her and call her a friend. Last month, when I was prepping to shoot an event she produced, I came across a fabulous pair of black wings at a second hand store in California. I then found a set of white wings across the US at second hand store in NH. These wings are so amazing...the feathers, and the feel of them, are just so beautiful! I could have used them myself for some killer Chameleon Shoot sessions, but I knew a secret...that Ryan was going to propose to Tara at the event I would be soon at. So, for the first time, I rallied up some models for my vision!!! I knew Tara and Ryan would fit these wings perfectly. They were getting engaged, they were beautiful human angels and they had the sense of creativity and fun to play and create art with me. It feels so good to get away and make art again after a 6 week slump. 🦊 I created this image by looking out my childhood bedroom window yesterday morning and seeing the incredible red tones in this tree. 🦊 Knowing it was high up I borrowed a ladder to raise my character up into it, keeping the ladder in as part of the moment. I brought the fox outfit from California, knowing it would work perfect with the New England foliage. My dad’s darkroom. I grew up sleeping above it…my bedroom was above this part of the basement. I would smell chemicals, hear his little mini tv and am radio, along with the tapping of chemicals in containers against the porcelain sink. I eventually learned how to process my film and print in this room. My poor dad worked his schedule around my work for the yearbook. I love the memories in this room. I miss my dad.
