It’s been a dream of mine to paint a giant tree around a column + on a ceiling and I’m so thankful that @hubbellrealty said “Yes!” when I proposed this idea. We were looking for ways to bring more nature to the interior of their Memory Care unit at Edencrest At Kettlestone and this seemed like a natural fit for this common area. I also wanted to incorporate small details to help spark memories and build connections, so I added a sweet owl, a butterfly and a few other birds throughout. I was commissioned to create a unique gilded ceiling depicting a fantasy Florida coastline for the entrance lobby of 1000 North, a luxury dining establishment with panoramic views of the Jupiter Inlet and Jupiter Lighthouse. I was inspired by local maps and used a Renaissance drawing method called disegno to create the design, incorporating rhythm and movement. I applied high-quality gold paint to outline rivers, inlets, and lakes, then added gold leaf for texture. The final touch included acrylic sculptural sails from Lusive to complete the look. @1000.north

Last week, the actual Nome and Bel set out to decorate what was otherwise a cracked and unsightly ceiling. Using some homemade/Bel-made lino stamps and basic acrylic paint, as well as the artistic eye and cottagecore playlist on in the background, this beautiful creation came into being! We especially love how the bare plaster doesn’t always take the whole stamp, so it gave a very easily textured and layered look! The ceiling will be re plastered eventually but for now, it’s a gorgeous piece of art in the nursery room of a special little girl. Fun Facts: Did you know Canning's conservation cleaning of @grandcentralnyc ceiling revealed numerous signatures, names and dates, marriage, births and other milestones recorded by those who worked on the 1944 mural recreation. In these images, you can see the name J.V. Brophy was carved into Pegasus’ eye during the 1944 ceiling replacement and re-discovered during our cleaning process. The cleaning solution was specifically formulated to address the exact composition of the dirt to be removed, and the composition of the paint and gold-leaf surface beneath it.
