📍 Skeleton Coast - Namibie 👀 Walvis Bay lagoon Zeila shipwreck Cape cross Natural Reserve 🏨 Walvis Bay Staycation Cape Cross Lodge Campsite Arrêt à Walvis Bay Lagoon pour admirer la colonie de flamants rose, on ne les aura jamais vu d’aussi près 🦩 On continue ensuite notre route en longeant la skeleton coast, cette côte porte son nom de « côte de squelette » de par pour son grand nombre de baleines échouées qui y ont perdu la vie, mais aussi de par les nombreux navires ayant chaviré à cause de conditions climatiques tempétueuses. Certaines carcasses sont encore visibles à l’heure actuelle. Nous filons ensuite jusque Cape Cross pour aller observer une colonie de phoques à fourrure du Cap. Ils y sont présents en très grand nombre toute l’année. Mais tellement nombreux que l’odeur y est nauséabonde 🤢 On a tous bien failli dégobiller 8x 😂 On aura cependant bien rigolé avec les remarques des minus. Le climat de la côte est très changeant et plutôt chargé ☁️, nous démonterons même le campement sous la pluie. Seals in their thousands , sea dwelling flamingos, wild desert horses and (unfortunately) distressed Oryx. The succulent Lithops - amazing desert plants which look like living stones until they flower. The crazy quiver trees in stark dry landscapes. The variation in scenic landscapes. Quiet vistas, sand filled deserted towns, stunning koppies creeping from the Namib Desert and eroded schist canyons. The highlight: Sossusvlei, Dead Vlei and Hidden Vlei: surrounded by some of the highest dunes in the world. Stunning, mesmerising red dunes carved by wind surrounding the vleis (dry pans) - real geology in action here. A welcome treat: apple pie in the middle of nowhere, which meant we identified a minor issue with the car - quickly fixed. A lucky pass when the 100th “crazy”, closely passed us at speed - the windscreen survived another day to see another wonder. A quick stop by the seaside in a quaint ex-colonial town (Swakopmund) to restock, enjoy the delights of a few nights of someone else cooking and a grassy campsite. Wind, wind and more wind. And then some sea mist. Such contrasts. Chapter five: #skeletoncoast Finally, the #travelseason has begun, and the first trip on the list was a thrilling, spontaneous #roadtrip to Namibia's iconic skeleton coast in the northwest. With new friends worldwide, we embarked on this #unforgettable roundtrip along the #coast and through the #desert of #Namibia, ready to embrace the unknown. The first stops in Walvisbay and Langstrand were short, but the #captivating #landscape was a sight to behold, definitely worth a halt. The first night, we camped at #hentisbay north from #swakopmund to be on our way in the early hours of the next day. From there, with a break at #capecross and the Southgate Death see swim hole, we drove to the Skeleton Coast #nationalpark entrance. With only a few opening hours left, we drove through the park to the next exit, where we were fortunate enough to be allowed to camp for the night. On the last full day, we drove to the #vingerklip and the Ugab Farm and then finally back to Windhoek the next day to complete our four-day road trip. Looking back, it was a great adventure, full of #memories and #experiences. There is no better way to experience the #beautyofnamibia than with friends on a road trip. So, let's see where we end up next time!
