Dog in our house🎉 Makana came to visit with my artist photographer friend @val_kim_studio. Makana was hesitant to come inside until she figured out this is a dog house with fenced back yard, comfy dog bed, biscuits, and water dish. It was great to have a dog around again. Val and I explored our creative paths and where we are now — accepting the past, open to the future and embracing the now. Building community. But there’s a nagging question that surfaced after Coco and Whiskey died last August. And it’s based on the fact that dogs have been central to my life for all but 3 1/2 years. Of all the major influences: nature, music, creativity - dogs have been my family. And I’m choosing to be dogless right now before getting dogs again. So … Who am I without a dog? 2022 Whiskey and Coco memory, with a barrier to the couch. Think Coco had some dementia back then, because she started a new behavior - hopping up on the couch. Her clever Terrier brain invented surprising routes to get where she wanted - like walking across the coffee table! Eventually I gave in. Helping her mental state was more important than the furniture. Personal dog philosophy: Furniture privileges are flexible depending on the dog and circumstances, but I prefer my dogs off the furniture. Training is simple - don’t invite them up. And give them a cushy dog bed. This sweet girl was found playing in traffic on the Big Island of Hawaii. A good human pulled over and opened her car door. The pup thankfully did not hesitate and jumped right in. The good human reached out asking if we could help her to place the dog, either here or there. She offered to cover the travel expenses if an adopter were to be found here in California.
