St Augustine - March 2024 - Part 1 Getting to drive along the beach in the Rivian was definitely a highlight of St. Augustine! Jack was errant to climb into the drivers seat and take it for a spin! We also loved checking out the rooftop bar at @sansebastianwinery and dining in one of the waterside tree houses at @conchhouse

📍 Whartons Beach Probably my fave beach in the Esperance area, but everyone has the same idea, so it’s super busy. The water is crystal clear & ice cold. Poor old Jas just couldn’t cope. The cutting was super simple to get on & off the beach, although we did see a guy attempt it in a 2WD & he got pretty stuck. 😂 We tucked ourselves up in the corner, out of the wind & it was beautiful. The other end had some decent waves & there was people down there surfing. We spent a couple weeks on the beach, interspersed with a few trips up north in the White Mountains of NH. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This might be the first time I had ever aired down the tires in the van for the purpose of driving on sand. I was still new to vanlife at the time, and anything vehicle maintenance related was still very nerve wracking for me. I’ve since grown confidence in my ability to handle the van offroad and in conditions that require 4wd, airing down the tires, and sometimes recovery gear. I do prefer not to get myself into situations that require that without others around. Leaving Port Hedland we made our way to Eighty Mile Beach. Eighty Mile Beach is the longest uninterrupted beach in WA extending for 220km. The park was a welcome change having some green grass to camp on, a lovely kept park right on the beach. You can drive down onto the beach and it is very popular with the fisherman. They suggest not to swim due to sharks, sea snakes and jellyfish, and after seeing some sharks so close to shore we could see why.
