Babies explore and enjoy their world using sight, smell, taste, touch, hearing and movement. In all zen babies classes this is all taken into consideration with the type of sensory items available, the use of soft lights to wind down with, mirrors and contrasting toys . We sing songs through the classes which are incorporated into the activities but also make the session fun and babies react to and enjoy their parents voices more than we realise! This also supports language development and helps increase your bond. Cuddling your baby makes them feel safe and loved but also the massage and reflexology strokes use babyโs first language of touch to develop a dialogue of love and respect through the massage strokes. Babies know their own parents smell and this is our animal instinct. The oil in Baby Massage is odourless and natural so nothing gets in the way of your connection. The equipment is washed in gentle washing powder and I never wear perfume body sprays to not have strong smells in class, if Iโm ever lucky enough to cuddle a baby I donโt want to transfer a product smell. The classes are such a fun time for exploring instruments it's easy to forget there's actual science behind why all of this is so good for your little one๐คฆ๐ผโโ๏ธ A study at the University of Washingtonโs Institute for Learning & Brain Sciences showed that babies that had taken part in just 12-15 minute music sessions were able to detect interruptions in sounds and speech where the babies that hadnโt had music in those sessions could not. Recognising patterns is hugely important in speech development as babies and toddles use the pattern of syllabus to define speech patterns. Such a beautiful start to the week in York with our Mermaid adventure ๐งโโ๏ธ Today we: - Explored lots of different sensory stimuli to bring The Mermaid to life. - Helped to develop our early literacy skills through sharing a book together. - Played peekaboo with sensory scarves and learned why peekaboo is great for language development. - Dipped into to some taste safe mermaid foam and experience different textures, colours and smells. - Practiced some early mark making in our polenta sand. - Felt a range of different textures and practiced some tracking and grabbing in our dry rock pool. - Experienced a range of colours with all our different lights in the under the sea dark den cave. - Practiced tracking, fine motor and gross motor skills with our parachute and bubble play!
