YOUTH APPRENTICE OF THE WEEK: Senior, Courtney Zager started as a youth apprentice Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in May of 2022 at Whispering Pines nursing home, and has been at Aspirus since November 2023. Her job duties include helping patients with daily tasks like brushing their teeth and giving them a bath, helping patients with ambulation, providing comfort by getting them fresh water or a warm blanket, changing bed linens, and communicating with coworkers to help provide the best patient care. She also does a lot of charting as that is a very important part of the job. "My favorite part of my job is helping patients with their recovery journey and seeing how much they improve. It is very rewarding being able to see your hard work pay off when someone is able to go back home." Courtney recommends trying out a Youth Apprenticeship. "This is the perfect time to figure out what jobs you enjoy, along with what you don't. You also meet so many amazing people along the way that are always there to support you." After graduation, Courtney will attend UW Stevens Point as a nursing major. She will be enrolled in the 1+2+1 program with UWSP and Mid-State Technical College. After college, she is hoping to be a labor and delivery nurse and continue working for Aspirus because it is an amazing company with great values.
