The exterior of Hargrave Hall was once an overlooked space, rarely used and mostly ignored. 🌿 Over the past three years, we’ve been working on making it safe by clearing away the rubble, pulling out the many weeds, and levelling the ground. We’ve laid a new lawn in the rear garden, and what a difference that has made! We’ve added lots of planters, a potting shed, and new seating. We replaced an old chain link with a lovely new wooden one (thanks to Islington Thriving Communities) and finally earlier this year had a new 42-foot-long herb and space planter* installed (thanks to Greener Islington), and we are now ready to start on the fun part - adding the plants and turning our exterior into the community garden it should be. 🌸 From May 3rd, 2023, we are delighted to announce the start of Archway Green Fingers, our new weekly community garden club running every Friday between 12 noon and 3pm and invite you to join us on the next stage of our journey. 🌿 Unveiling the Story of Hargrave Hall Community Centre: The Rear Garden🌿 🏡 The exterior of Hargrave Hall was once an overlooked space, shrouded in neglect and devoid of love. With a large, dull grey paved area and an unloved and unused rear, its potential lay dormant, waiting to be awakened by caring hands and eager hearts. 🌻 Over the past three years, driven by a shared passion for gardening and community, we've embarked on a journey to breathe new life into this forgotten land. ✨ We started in our rear garden by making it safe. Our small but dedicated group of volunteers cleared away rubble, removed broken equipment and old footings from a previous user, and levelled the ground. We then laid a new lawn, and what a difference it made! 🌱 But this is just the start; our journey extends beyond mere landscaping. Yes, we want to add life and improve our little nook of Archway for all the multitude of environmental benefits. However, we’re hoping to cultivate more than just plants; our goal is to foster connections, share knowledge, and nurture a love for nature, as well as develop a sense of belonging and camaraderie. 🌿 Whether you're a seasoned gardener or just starting out, there's a place for you in our growing community. Get ready to witness the magic of transformation as we convert a bland plot into a flourishing community garden! In 2022/23 we raised funds to make safe and level the rear garden, laid a new lawn, built a potting shed, replaced an old chain link fence with a lovely wooden one and installed lots of planters!
