Negroni Frappé Today was our 15th wedding anniversary, @asphodel_bastet and I. We had a drink at home before we went to the restaurant, because it's hard to find one with both nice food and a good bartender. I made her a G&T, with the nice Monkey 47 gin I got her for the occasion. I made myself a Negroni Frappé, a recipe I found on @trufflesontherocks channel. I replaced the Montenegro by Vecchio Amaro, which adds a fresh minty touch to an already very refreshing drink, nice! 30ml (1oz) Dry Gin 30ml (1oz) Vecchio Amaro del capo 30ml (1oz) Campari 30ml (1oz) fresh grapefruit juice 5 drops saline solution Combine everything in your shaker, and give it a nice hard shake. Strain over pebble ice in the glass of your choice. Garnish with a grapefruit peel. ✈️ PAPER PLANE ✈️ Creado por Sam Ross, el mismo inventor del Penicillin (tranki el pibe), en 2008 para la apertura de The Violet Hour en Chicago, el Paper Plane ya se convirtió en un clásico contemporáneo. El nombre surgió de la canción homónima de M.I.A, que por esos años estaba bastante de moda y suena teloneando este humilde posteo. Está inspirado en un histórico cocktail de Detroit, el Last World, aunque no en su composición, sino en el sentido de que es un equal-parts drink, es decir que es un cocktail elaborado a partir de partes iguales de distintas bebidas. En este caso, la receta original es: 3/4 onza Bourbon Whiskey 3/4 onza Aperol 3/4 onza Amaro Nonino Quintessentia 3/4 onza Jugo de limón Por una cuestión lógica de no poder conseguir Nonino Quintessentia, los chicos de @878bar utilizan Averna, un clásico Amaro Siciliano que hoy forma parte del grupo Campari y lo reemplaza a la perfección. ¿Y por qué es tan rico? La verdad ni idea, supongo que porque el Bourbon y los Amaro se llevan joya (Manhattan, Old Fashioned..), o porque el Aperol le da ese toque dulzon, y claramente porque el jugo de limón le levanta la acidez y te queres tomar 3000. En cualquier caso, es absolutamente disfrutable y queda hermoso servido en una copa estilo coupe previamente refrescada. Los invitaría a que prueben mi versión, pero jamás aprendí a hacer el infaltable avioncito de papel que sobre el borde de la copa nos invita a despegar hacia nuestras más voladoras sensaciones. With Spring in full swing, I’m starting off a series of Mai Tai riffs featuring amaro and bitters to dive deep down the aperitiki rabbit hole. First up, the OG... 𝐁𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐌𝐚𝐢 𝐓𝐚𝐢 Recipe by @jroertel As feat. in @punch_drink - - - 1½ oz. (45mL) @campariofficial ¾ oz. (22.5mL) @smithandcrossrum Jamaican rum ½ oz. (15mL) @ferrandcognac dry curaçao ¾ oz. (22.5mL) @bgreynolds orgeat 1 oz. (30mL) fresh lime juice Combine all the ingredients in a shaker tin, add a small scoop of crushed ice and shake until it’s gone. Open pour into a double old fashioned glass, fill with crushed ice, and garnish with mint, a lime wheel and a @surfsidesips straw. Jeremy Oertel’s campari-forward spec perfectly captures the iconic, bitter-sweet orange notes of Campari, with a healthy dose of Jamaican funk in this mai tai riff. Interestingly, while I initially thought the orgeat might have added a bit too much sweetness, in the glass it worked perfectly. I’d definitely recommend this as a gateway cocktail into the red Italian bitters category for anyone intimidated by jumping straight into the deep end with a negroni! I wrote my April installment of The Last Word on their springtimey Meadow on the Runway, a take on a Paper Plane with their citrus-herbal Spring amaro in place of Amaro Nonino, alongside intense celery bitters by @patricians_smallbatch_bitters , Aperix in place of Aperol, and a drop of cherry Luxardo syrup.
