A simple and fulfilling delicious green onion, gram flour stuff patatha. Paired with any raita, pickle or curry. Sharing a quick recipe here :- Washed and chopped green onion finely. Heat the oil add mustard, cumin seeds add green onion with turmeric and salt. Let them cook for some time now add coriander powder, red chilli powder mix it well add 2 teaspoon of gram flour mix it well you can add few drops of oil or water for moisture cover it and let them cook properly. Let it cool down now make a small ball of dough, roll it stuff with this mixture and roll it nicely. I am a multidisciplinary fiber artist, passionate about embroidery, flowers and beautiful wool threads. FLEA MARKETS ARE DYING… Yes, you read that right. But I don’t mean falling off the face of the earth… they may still exist but it will be fewer and fewer antiques you’ll find at them. Instead you’ll have to go to an actual antiques market to pay dealer pricing and even then those markets are acquiring more new import dealers than old ones. I can remember growing up at my local flea markets, four of them we would rotate every weekend. One still exists but it’s mostly produce and tacos now. I’d watch my parents haggle over primitives and pay $20 for a quilt. Now, my reality is far from that. People are attaching “online pricing” and Google lensing as they shop. “Well that’s worth more online.” “Is it though?” Instead of people wanting to make a little rainy day cash, they are itching to make a fortune and way more than just a buck. So all the prices are inflated… so we go to the thrift and even then people are standing at the shelves searching to see how much it is on Amazon. The art of the deal is still important but not so important it takes the pure fun out of the hunt and cleaning your treasures once you get home. Hello, Tuesday. Thought I’d share a glimpse of my new studio space. Being able to have + keep this space has been a true gift that I’m grateful for. It is not merely a room filled with materials and tools for me ; it’s a space where imagination takes form, creativity is cultivated, space is provided to honestly be alone with the questions, and belonging is found. Most of my practice is lived out in this studio space here in RVA- making visible what is within me through the works of my hands. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ However, a nice percentage of my practice is lived outside of the studio through creative partnerships, teaching + collaborations with communities, organizations + artists who align with my list of “why I make art.” I have a couple exciting projects that I’m currently working on. I learned to sew in grade 7… coming to Canada as an immigrant… we did not have a sewing machine at home …at that time we had home economics…a wonderful thing! Gave me skills and instilled a passion for textiles …in time my parents bought me a sewing machine … it became a good friend. I taught many adults to sew… children both boys and girls. I also taught at the Prison for Women in Kingston. My daughter developed the same love for textiles … she went on to study Fashion…which led to many things … in the creative field. Life skills that we lean as children stay with us… For the boys I told them the pedal of the sewing machine was like the gad pedal in the car and navigating the fabric it was like steering. The kids learned to cut / measure and create. My son used some of those skills and is a builder / carpenter. Computers are great … not everyone is suited for that … hands on and human connections go a long way. We all have creative abilities… never dismiss that part of you… encourage your children / grandchildren …. play. Painting came to me late in life… I have had the opportunity to combine my love of textiles and my art. This is my new cushion …it’s called Spring Meadow…named after the apple orchard down the road from me, which was my inspiration. Creative tip of the week: cultivating harmony... 🦋 Yesterday I got an email from a lovely student (hi Annette!) asking me about "harmony" and I thought I'd share my reply with you too. It's true that in my online classes, I do my best to create a serene atmosphere that fosters creativity. I give plenty of tips to help you create this sense of harmony for yourself: in the way you set up your space, how you can embrace the ups and downs of the creative process and deal with your inner critic. But Annette's question was about the challenge of finding harmony in the midst of a chaotic world (and especially TV-news-induced fear 🫣). If you're feeling the same, I hope this can help a bit : "Dear A., Thanks for your sweet email. Even though it may seem like I live and breathe harmony in my classes, of course I don't feel this way all the time and I have challenges like anyone else (health, business, family etc.). But I've long ago made the conscious decision to cultivate the good vibes. I believe, and know from experience, that what we focus on, grows. So I am mindful of what I focus on, and where my attention goes. Since you ask, yes we got rid of our TV over a decade ago. Best decision ever. We do watch plenty of movies but never the news as they mostly focus on the negative and seem to deliberately cultivate fear. I prefer to stay informed by reading articles online, as well as books, blogs etc. that show different perspectives. Making art is one of the best ways I know to cultivate these good vibes, and give them a real, tangible form that can be shared with others to inspire and uplift. So please keep creating!
